I think it's the fact that alot of people don't want to fork over 50 bucks to buy another edition book espeically for minor rule changes. GW could just post the rule changes online but then they won't make any money. Or they could just sell the smaller version of the 5th edition book by itself and without the blackreach pass models. But they won't do that either. So the next best thing would be to go to ebay or get a privated copy...

The rules changes weren't all that minor.

Nor is the rulebook £50. You can easily get it for a tenner on Ebay

I play 5th BRB rules, but use a 4th IG Army. Before anyone yells at me, saying IG has an updated codex, I play IA3 Elysian Drop Troops. They don't have a 5th edition Army list, and they don't work with the new codex.

My FLGS doesn't mind any, but I have gotten some flak on various forums about it. Then again, those people also argue that they aren't tournament legal, even though I tell them I just play friendly games.

You choose to use outdated rules. That is your problem. I play a 3rd edition Army. Yes it is a bitch to integrate into 5th, but I do it anyway.

Elysains don't work with 5th. The Army list is designed as a 100% Deep Striking army. They were already a unique Army list, but used the same doctrines and most of the armory and stats. This is not workable with the new codex, so I still use their 4th edition rules. I was not complaining, just bringing up example of why some people are still in 4th, other then ignorance or cheating.

You can still have a 100% Deep Striking list, you are just forced to take Valkyries and are Limited to at Most 9 Units.

Such is the price of advancement.

My Space Wolves used to be able to Deep Strike for free, now they must buy Drop Pods (which I have bought several of).

I found out the hard way that you have to read EVERY SINGLE detail of the 5th ed book. I read most of it, but things like sniper rifles I assumed would still be the same...I was of course wrong!

OOOH! That's another Favourite! Was Playing Pathfinder Heavy Eldar and he thought the rules were the same. He was Pretty Pissed at first that he lost his 2+ to hit but when I reminded him he now Ignored Armour saves a whole 1/6 of the time more he was all right with it

And as well against vehicles as well, as I learnt quite well when one of my early 5th ed games ended up being lost because of a Lucky roll of 12 for his Sniper shot against my Rhino

Also that his pathfinders went from a 3+ cover save in most terrain to a 2+ is a nice boost as well

Yeah that was a good one too. Pathfinders are almost impossible to shift now without getting something close and flamering them to death.

No, the rules are so bad it doesn't matter what edition you use, or cross-editions, it is still a steaming pile regurgitated possum feces.

Nah, the core rules are the most consistent they've ever been. Still not perfect, but pretty good, all things considered.

It's because they kept all the old crappy rules and replaced the few really good rules with new crappy rules. I, like all the other people at my FLGS play a hybrid of 4th, 5th and their own casual approach to house rules. It constantly morphs, kinda like a chaos spawn. It pays to not take it too seriously. Remember, the rules are merely a suggestion.

Remind me to never play warpcrafter, jk.

I've generally had an easy time to changing over to 5th. I believe I played 3 or 4 games of 4th edition. I spent most of that time frame playing a lot of Fantasy. What few rules I didn't like from 4th disappeared and the game plays in a way now that I can dig. The tough thing for me is getting back into the game with people who are still stuck on a 3rd-to-4th edition mindset.

From reading most of his posts I can honestly say I probably wouldn't want to play against warpcrafter. We obviously have different approaches to what makes wargaming fun.
