They weren't asking.

I think it's possible that I was simply commenting that expecting the majority to alter their behavior to match a minorities expectation is perilous, and the use of the word "Ask" was simply dry understatement. I understood the situation pretty well.

Is this just a sort of knee jerk reaction we get from the right wing circle jerk around here? Where any statement to the left of "Minorities should STFU and go home" is attacked?

You were pretty nitpicky about my post, and I don't' think it's entirely a coincidence that my post is the only one that isn't hard core outrage.

I'm left of centre in my politics and object to fascistic extremist demanding everyone obey their minority religious views and the failure of those claiming to be of the left simply capitulating to the whims of a particularly loud and aggressively strident group that seek to assimilate everyone else into their highly intolerant faith or make everyone else kowtow to their sexist and bigoted ideology. Welcome to the Isles, citizen, be a productive and caring and sharing individual, keep the fething noise down and don't piss on the roses. You are free to select your day of worship or dress in interesting ways or whatever really as long as you don't force your viewpoint on me or the others here, the ones who are showing politeness and interest in you and are quite prepared to share with you, provided you don't start throwing your weight about. The idea that anyone not agreeing with this lunatic PC extremity makes you right wing is not valid, it is a forced order to conform to the wishes of a select few, objecting to it is simply wishing to maintain a sense of personal freedom.

Tolerant status quo or fething death. Extremists will be purged.

Through the same media outlets as broke the original story (e.g. Torygraph website.)

If we accept their provenance for the start of the story it seems reasonable to accept it for the end too.

Of course the whole thing still have been got up by the right wing scare press, like the EU bendy bananas rule, but I can't be bothered to research it in depth.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

No Killkrazy, I must strongly disagree with you belittling this a'la UKIP style daily mailing and putting it down to scaremongering, civil liberties were overridden by a local government seeking to placate a minority. Whilst the idea that it's just a swimming pool and it's just for a day at the weekend is fine for underplaying things, I think this is how we will find letters being sent home from state schools soon enough telling non-islamic families their daughters have to wear head scarves so as not to offend islamic students. Or that all reference to Christmas must be removed from school assembly.

It is in these smaller issues we see the spreading threat for 20 years hence. When we wake up and say 'what about my rights to choose' and are imprisoned or beheaded for offending. This medieval cult needs to reformat (islam 1.2, now with added tolerance) or up sticks and relocate en masse.

"First they came for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up, because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me."

Although the norm was not having t-shirts and the like at public UK pools; I can understand how banning burkini's can be interpreted as being "clothes"-minded and infringing on one's religion. Wearing burkinis signifies an important concept in Islamic religion and various population groups; this cultural value should be something readily adopted by free nations.

By banning burkini's you're pretty much banning a group of people practicing a very much established way of life. I also don't think this will start a slippery slope of the UK turning into Iran and from this perspective it just seems culturally insensitive and ethnocentric not to let people wear their conservative religious clothing.

Then again I don't know why t-shirts are banned in the first place but if Jeremy Clarkson's opinion and rants are any indication; the healthy and safety and the UK government in general can be a bit nuts (just like all governments but JC has a particularly entertaining way to express his thoughts).

Reread the article mate, it concerned a swimming pool where Non-muslim women had to wear a burkini so as not to offend the muslims.

The article was pointing to a requirement of the public pool that all women wear burkinis. It was repealed.
