I've made a mini-nether / nether in a room so there is a source of netherrack/soul sand/glowstone if you can find it (actually not very hidden)

The connection reset issue is either you connecting just as the server gets reset, or the Internet connection between you and the server is too poor. The server is in Europe, so is quite a long way and the minecraft code is very buggy so if it keeps happening, it might not be possible for you to play until they update the code.

Yeah I will make another in the next few days but bigger this time, and even more hidden. I am thinking 3 signs with clues about the x y z coords hidden in plain sight, then the nether room hidden somewhere you need to dig to find.

well that was interesting updating, but the server is now up to 1.5 and you should be able to get on without any problems. Just added the two users who had requested in this thread and off to the sticky to add the rest now...

Melissia, no moaning though (as you already did about netherrack earlier in the thread ), this server is an amusing diversion rather than anything I intend to support, so if anyone moans too much about server operations to the point it feels like a chore, I'll just block access to those people. Nothing personal though!

couple of things:
1. I lost my minecraft password so cant sign in on my main computer, just my laptop which is much slower for games, so wont be on much in the near future until I can reset my password, which is currently broken on minecraft's site.
2. As a result, I cant add new people as easily. If you want to be added to the server now, you must post in the minecraft sticky in this forum, or I wont see it or will forget about it.
3. Do you want me to set the server restart time to every hour and a half? This will reduce the wait if it crashes, but will be more annoying getting kicked off every hour and a half for 1 minute. Vote now!

Oops cant do every hour and a half without making my crontab file a bit more complex than I care for, so I'm making it every 2 hours instead.

doctadeth, you are fine and welcome. Aussie players do get screwed on the server lag, but as minecraft improves its code it should be less of a problem.

I didn't know you could revert a server to a previous state. How do you do that?

I'm interested because I'm hosting a server of my own with some friends, and our favorite game is to build a castle and then besiege it while other guys try to defend it. Reverting the server after each game would avoid having to entirely rebuild it.

Get the minecraft server script from the minecraft wiki (too lazy to google right now), one of the script options is to backup. Running that automatically (or manually) every few hours allows you to keep snapshots of the server in different states, and then just shut down the server, rename the world folder and copy the backed up snapshot folder to the world folder location before restarting and all is back up and running . Very simple.

Server's not been too busy so put out the times that it happened and I'll ban whoever it was that was online then

I'm about to travel so wont be able to update the server to 1.6 for 2 days if it comes out today or tomorrow. No time to get on and replace lost items at the moment, you'll have to try and catch yakface when he is on.
