John himself is a psyker of such ability that he is within the bounds of human comprehension, but only just. Likewise, the Emperor is as advanced to John as John is to normal men. Thus, John is able to relate a little of what the Emperor is like to normal, mundane humans (in this case, the readers).
The choice of Dan Abnett to describe the Primarchs/Emperor without actually getting inside their heads is a good decision. It keeps that mystery alive, and allows the inclusion of characters that think in such a way as to be beyond the cognitive abilities of the readers. It makes them seem more than human, which they are. Books like Fulgrim, on the other hand, try to present the story from the Primarch's point of view, which humanizes them too much and diminishes them.
Again, these are just my opinions.
Wasn't that the whole point though?
To show that they had too many human flaws, making them susceptible to the influence of Chaos in the first place
I enjoyed Fulgrim for that and the slow descent of Fulgrim into madness ( That orchestra scene was really, really well done)
Besides I think Dan Abnetts style didn't work for Prospero Burns at all
It wasn't really what I had expected or wanted really, but thats just my personal opinion on it

Slow descent? One minute they are the Emperors perfect warriors then they are shagging corpses and blowing trumpets.
It was a well written book, but the corruption of Fulgrim in previous incarnations was more tragic to me. The whole Daemon Sword seems to cheapen his fall.
One thing with the Emperor though is his precognitive ability. He was supposed to be a being of amazing foresight, what the hell happened there?

Not sure how you got the idea that it was instant honestly
The whole book showed how they were falling into what they were over time, seemed like a slow progression to me
As for the Emperor, well that could apply to the whole Horus Heresy couldnt it
I don't think he did and it was just a result of him making the decision not to tell them anything for who knows what reason and then essentially leaving them to their own devices
I seriously do not get why he would not tell Horus AT LEAST about his plans for the webway
Was there any reason to keep it secret?

Instant no, but it certainly wasn't the slow corruption of the chapter that was intended. There wasn't much on the actual corruption of how the Children sided with the Horus. In Flight of the Eisenstein you had Grulgor and Typhon going into it. In Fulgrim, they are the Emperors guys then they are not. That's my opinion on it anyway.

I mean, how didn't he see any of it coming if his powers of foresight were so good? Bad day?

"AM are bunch of half human-half robot monkeys who keep tech working by punching it with a wrench And their tech is so sophisticated that you could never get it wrapped it out" thing a LITTLE to seriously. It also goes "Tau tech is so awesome I wish I was Tau and not some stupid Human" thing.

Really enjoyed Fulgrim and Legion... its been a while since I read them, might have to try and pick them back up. Having a hard time remembering the interplay between Grammaticus and big E.
There was also a good scene with the Emperor, Malcador, and Dorn in Nemesis.
