Now if the sentinel could take a heavy bolter, I'd be really happy.
That's a crappy weapon for the same price as the AC.
YMMV.

For an outflanking unit -- yes. I don't see armored sentinels crossing the board to assault long fangs all that often.
Sleepysloth wrote:If you choose to use them as a distraction, though, my own opinion is to use three single Scouts and put your points elsewhere. It becomes tough for an opponent to justify firing three different anti-vehicle capable units at three different 30 point targets.
This works great in objective games. It does bring 3 open topped AV 10 KPs to the party. That can make annihilation a bit more tricky. Not impossible - just more tricky.

I used to run two Auto-cannon/ HK missile scouts. After meching up a bit, I didn't have the points for them. I am thinking of adding a Plasma Cannon Armored one for a cheap Plasma Cannon (HS is full of Artillery/ Support Tanks).
I like Sentinels. It's nice to see something that ISN'T a vendetta in the FA slot.

It's less than ideal of course, I was thinking for more of an infantry/light vehicle harassment unit. More shots over better shots on BS 3 is a winning formula sometimes. Of course this is pure speculation as the weapon isn't an option anyway. Although this makes the multilaser look awesome now.

I was going to say just run a ML instead. Higher str. which would help with rear armor. Which is why I usually say screw it and run the AC.

Heavy Bolters on Sentinels aren't that bad actually. I field them in my Harkoni Warhawks army, but they're more a supportive unit than anything else (even though they're troops). Nine Heavy Bolter Shots can hurt after a fullisade of lasgun and melta fire...

ACs and ML do more hurting, IMHO.

HB vs MEQ: 3 shots, 1.5 hits, 1 wound, 0.3 dead.
AC vs MEQ: 2 shots, 1 hit, 0.83 wound 0.27 dead.
ML vs MEQ: 3 gaks, 1.5 hits, 1.25 wound, 0.416 dead.
So yeah the ML wins.
But seeing as it's a HB with a point better strength, you'd expect that

I think keeping them cheap is the best bet- scouts with multilaser. At BS3 you'll need the volume of fire they bring. Outflank, and pepper the guys hiding in the backfield.
Other scout options are nice, but the more points you spend on them the less cost effective theyre gonna be.
Also, it bugs the hell out of me that they have to PAY for a heavy flamer. Theyre the only vehicle in the armory that has to pay points to replace an existing weapon with a heavy flamer. I think it should be a free swap like the chimera.
