Oh, thanks for that catch, guys! I didn't even know you could link to a video and have it start partway through... the Stalker does indeed look amazing! (although I might like it better with the necron "pilot" left off, or somehow enclosed).

My friend and I were actually just discussing this last night, why does a machine need a machine to drive it? Or is that one Triarch Praetorian just the last one to get woken up and needs to hop a ride into battle to catch up?

Guess I'm in the minority but the Wraiths just don't do it for me. They look top heavy for the base that they're on and are going to be constantly falling over with normal game play. They also look like they have quite a few fragile parts, such as the Whip Coils, that will be breaking off when it does falls over. However I will be picking up the other three plastic kits, multiples in the case of the Spyders and maybe 2 of the Tomb Blades for a unit. As for the special characters? I don't need them as I have the plastic Overlords from the Barge kits and the Lychguard kit to make those in plastic.

The way I look at this is all the Necron vehicles were manned before the Transferrence to Living Metal bodies. The Necrons could have taken the time and refitted all their vehicles so they did not need crews. Considering just how large the Necron Empire was at the time this would have been quite a lengthy process, delaying the beginning of war against the hated Old Ones, which the Triarch did not want to do. Instead the Necrons took the quicker route of using crewed vehicles with minor modifications to connect the crew to the vehicle. Then, once the Old Ones were dealt with, there wasn't much time to automate their vehicles before the rebellion against the C'tan began. After the Necrons has won, the Great Sleep was soon upon them, leaving no time to make the upgrades or provide the programming for the Spyders and Master Control Programs maintaining the tombs to do so while they slept. Now, there could be Tombworlds out there that did remove the need for crewed vehicles, which is why it's perfectly fine if you'd like to model your vehicles without a crew.

I didn't know the Necrons were so Spidery. I got into Necrons for my son, reading the codex, and I don't read any Spidery stuff in their fluff.

Spidercron, spidercron, does whatever a spidercron can!
Ahem. Sorry.
I think it's an idea to make them seem a bit more "creepy". Spiders, for the most part, make humanity uncomfortable. So it's not a bad way to go.

I will definitely be looking into a Stalker, as well as some Wraiths. My buddy and I still play some 4th edition games, and the Wraiths are much cooler than the old metal ones.
While cool, Illuminor Szeras just reminds me of the years-old Necrotech from Privateer Press. And I worry about tiny Finecast spider legs......

Multi-legged walker from the waste down isn't new, is it? But I do think the necron version looks pretty awesome.
The Triarch Stalker is absolutely amazing. I was looking for an alternative miniature for the Cryx Kraken for Warmachine and I think this is it. All I need to do is find two "doctor octopus" style tentacle arms, replace the driver with a furnace vent and scrape away all the necron runes and turn them into necrotite glowing areas.
And what a better value than Privateer's terrible Kraken miniature.
If only GW could get their rules straight, I'd be a regular customer again after seeing releases like these Necrons.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

The site says that the Spyders comes with the large flying base (which are almost 60mm), but they look like small flying bases... are they really that big?

In this months WD, the showcase pics that got leaked had the Spyders on Infantry flying bases but on the studio painters pics the Spyders are on 60mm bases. Until we get our hands on them, it could be either. Though if it is the smaller bases, then GW has surely messed up as a model that big is going to be unstable.

That's the only problem I have with GWs latest crop of 'every army must have a massive centre-piece model' - line of sight.
They get targeted in the 1st turn cause that's all you can shot at & they get obliterated before they get to do their stuff.

Not bad, wished they had some of these designs when I had started many years ago. I always liked the Necrons but when I got in to 40k, at the time, they were not even an army.
Most of the models are cool looking and would almost convince me to come back, except for the Tomb Blades. The Tomb Blades kind of look like they should be some sort of power matrix to a super weapon, or Delorean time machine.
