I actually am using glazes in the process for exactly the purpose you are describing, but what I hadn't considered was mixing it with the future floor polish (which I am currently using for the final gloss varnish). Thanks for the tip, that's a great idea!

As for putting on a gloss coat, as I mentioned, I'm actually using future floor polish for just that purpose. But when taking pictures for this thread I obviously go for angles that avoid glare as much as possible, so it isn't really apparent.
