DEVGRU has a lot to hide, and he's put himself, and the unit in a serious predicament. I don't know how this will turn out, but these operators need to take that OPSEC stuff a little more seriously.

Chris Kyle was just on Stars Earn Stripes. Why? Why does that show even exist? These individuals don't need their faces plastered all over the place, because there could be many people who wish them harm, or any number of things.

Power projection is one thing, and getting those recruiting numbers in is another, but big government is making some careless moves, and taking the secrecy out of our elite military forces.

Wait, why do we care about the lives of people we pay to take on risk?

Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.

However, as anyone with a clearance knows, the NDA is for life. Retiring doesn't mean you no longer have to keep classified information classified.

What would I ask Obama, exactly? If he, like his predecessor, leaked classified information to the press in an effort to score political points? If so, I'll be just as disgusted with him as I am with Bush.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything, though. "The other side did it, so we can, too!" argument doesn't work, and shouldn't even be a last resort when talking about the potential security of servicemen and women.

Let's ask Fox News, since they're the ones who revealed the identity of the author of this book.

Do we even *know* if anything classified was released with this book? If he did, then he should be punished.

I've read somewhere that the publisher hired an attorney to ensure that nothing classified was inadvertently released.

These guys are pros.. .I'm sure they're aware of what's included in the NDA.

I think the hysteria is all about "some group" going after "their guy".

No, we don't. However, I'm uncertain how an attorney could verify whether or not something was classified. It's like the joke from the West Wing about a report about life on Mars: "I can't tell you if there's a report, I can only tell you it was classified by the DoD."

I've met Admiral McRaven before, twice. I wouldn't co-sign a car loan for him or anything, but he seemed like a decent guy. I doubt he's playing Obama's partisan with this.

Um... have you been ignoring that brouha from Congress claiming that the Obama Administration was leaking classified information?

Not at all. The administration almost certainly did. Whether or not Obama had anything to do with it, I am unsure of. Just as I remain unsure about Bush and Valerie Plame.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

It wont be the first time an expose like this is actually authorised by the back door and contains heavy misinformation.

WASHINGTON – A firsthand account of the Navy SEAL raid that killed Usama bin Laden contradicts previous accounts by administration officials, raising questions as to whether the terror mastermind presented a clear threat when SEALs first fired upon him.

Bin Laden apparently was hit in the head when he looked out of his bedroom door into the top-floor hallway of his compound as SEALs rushed up a narrow stairwell in his direction, according to former Navy SEAL Matt Bissonnette, writing under the pseudonym Mark Owen in "No Easy Day." The book is to be published next week by Penguin Group (USA)'s Dutton imprint.

Bissonnette says he was directly behind a "point man" going up the stairs. "Less than five steps" from top of the stairs, he heard "suppressed" gunfire: "BOP. BOP." The point man had seen a "man peeking out of the door" on the right side of the hallway.

The author writes that bin Laden ducked back into his bedroom and the SEALs followed, only to find the terrorist crumpled on the floor in a pool of blood with a hole visible on the right side of his head and two women wailing over his body.

Bissonnette says the point man pulled the two women out of the way and shoved them into a corner and he and the other SEALs trained their guns' laser sites on bin Laden's still-twitching body, shooting him several times until he lay motionless. The SEALs later found two weapons stored by the doorway, untouched, the author said.

In the account related by administration officials after the raid in Pakistan, the SEALs shot bin Laden only after he ducked back into the bedroom because they assumed he might be reaching for a weapon.

White House spokesman Tommy Vietor would not comment on the apparent contradiction late Tuesday.

"No Easy Day" was due out Sept. 11, but Dutton announced the book would be available a week early, Sept. 4, because of a surge of orders due to advance publicity that drove the book to the top of the Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com best-seller lists.

The Associated Press purchased a copy of the book Tuesday.

In another possibly uncomfortable revelation for U.S. officials who say bin Laden's body was treated with dignity before being given a full Muslim burial at sea, the author reveals that in the cramped helicopter flight out of the compound, one of the SEALs called "Walt" was sitting on bin Laden's chest as the body lay at the author's feet in the middle of the cabin.

The publisher says the author used pseudonyms for all the SEALs.

Bissonnette also writes disparagingly that none of the SEALs were fans of President Barack Obama and knew that his administration would take credit for ordering the May 2011 raid. One of the SEALs said after the mission that they had just gotten Obama re-elected by carrying out the raid.

But he says they respected him as commander in chief and for giving the operation the go-ahead.

Bissonnette writes less flatteringly of meeting Vice President Joe Biden along with Obama at the headquarters of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment after the raid. He says Biden told "lame jokes" no one understood, reminding him of "someone's drunken uncle at Christmas dinner."

Beyond such embarrassing observations, U.S. officials fear the book may include classified information, as it did not undergo the formal review required by the Pentagon for works published by former or current Defense Department employees.

Officials from the Pentagon and the CIA, which commanded the mission, are examining the manuscript for possible disclosure of classified information and could take legal action against the author.

In a statement provided to The Associated Press, the author says he did "not disclose confidential or sensitive information that would compromise national security in any way."

Bissonnette's real name was first revealed by Fox News and confirmed to The Associated Press.

Jihadists on Al Qaeda websites have posted purported photos of the author, calling for his murder.

This. In the past they've even authorized books by people who had nothing to do with what the book was about and were almost completely inaccurate. I wouldn't call it a misinformation campaign though as much as a "No classified secrets? Okay we don't care. Here you go."

And it could have been because of some other factors, but initially deciding to release it on 9/11 just makes everybody involved look like a giant douche, IMO.

Release 4 Sept. Its a Penguin book. Not one of my favorite brand of books to read. From what I understand there's a huge clamoring for the book already. The book disagree with what Obama said about the operation to a point he can't run on the killing OBL death. Hence its going to get ugly for a whole lot of people.

This is a very simple issue to understand.

It is okay if 'we" do it, but it is NOT okay if "they" do it.

I guess I don't understand the "controversy" here. What am I supposed to be surprised about, exactly? That members of the military don't like the President much?

I know it absolutely kills Republicans that Obama said as a candidate he'd send troops into into Pakistan to get OBL if need be, and was roundly mocked by all for it, and then he actually did it and was successful, but it would be awesome if you guys could, you know, let go of the partisan butthurt on this one and just be happy that someone who killed a lot of Americans is no longer able to plan attacks on our country.

If you want something to be upset about, why don't you guys petition your representative, who doubtlessly spent all day today talking about how much American rules (while wearing an American flag pin the size of a grapefruit, most likely) to investigate why Fox News released the name of an American servicemen?

feth me, eight years later and we can still find someone that is willing to pretend the SBVT campaign was anything more than political bs. We really are in the post-truth age.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

They called his integerty about the awards he recieved.

John Kerry served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, during the period from 1966 to 1970. His last tour in Vietnam was four months as officer in charge of a Swift boat in 1969. Kerry received several combat medals during this tour, including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts. Kerry's military record received considerable attention during his political career, especially during his unsuccessful 2004 bid for the presidency.

Four months and recieved a SS, BM, and three PH's. By today's standard for military awards......WTH!?! (PH's wounds regardless of type) A SS and BM though it doesn't seem "right". Then you have to be in the military to understand Sebster.

Edit
Lets not forget about the Bush military service that was called into question by some Democrats.
