Subject: Probably starting 40k! The Noob needs a decision, Tyranids vs Necrons?

Its so weird seeing all the calls for, "Play Necron... they're easier to play!"
For a hobby that we frequently get into for years and years at a time, does a gentle learning curve at the beginning really warrant an overwhelming call of one faction vs another?
I know 'Nids are an unpopular choice right now, but I wanted to play them since middle of 5th Ed. I happen to be starting now while they're generally considered below-average, and yet I have no regrets, as I know i'll love learning their tricks for ages, and probably several main game editions, to come.
As always, the best advice is....
1. Pick the models you like best as you'll be looking at them for a LONG time.
2. Pick the macro strategy that you tend to like. If "swarm" sounds fun, go 'Nid and don't let people just rail-road you into the "easiest" choice.

If you enjoy painting: nids If you enjoy complex armies needing synergy to work: nids If you enjoy having LOTS of models available: nids. If you enjoy the look on your opponents face as you table them time and again - which is all I've seen since the codex has dropped: nids. If, however, you enjoy having people stay away from you or claiming you are a WAAC player for bringing 2 flyers: crons.

I started with nids and did an entirely close combat army. THis got boring real quick for me as my main player was tau and would work me every time. I switched to necrons a few years ago and LOVE the new necrons. Talk about a fun, pain in the arse army! However with the new nids out now I'm going back to my first love of the bugs and starting over. I'll be buying and building a 2k bug list and hoping to gear it towards monster creatures and shooting.
Pick an army you can see yourself enjoy painting and playing woth, bc it's an expensive and slow hobby! Which ever way you go you won't regret it.

Tyranids. Because they have just had a codex and you will know from flicking through what to buy, necrons are good at the moment, but will likely change within a year and be given a new codex which will mean....
You have to relearn them (not good for a new player).
The small army your building might take a nerf bat (you know it's coming cronnies!) and without a large collection you won't have the models to field a new type army; New dex is exciting but something a new player could do without.
But if you like the look of them, go Necrons

Great. Now I'm second-guessing myself. I think I'll stay with Necrons as people say they are easier to pick up. Thanks again ya'll!
