Wow that's stupid... If they can work ahead of the crowd they should be allowed to continue and supported through that; not dragged back because one kid has forgotten how to take his fingers out of his nose again.

How hard is it to fire a teacher with tenure in California?
Exhibit A Mark Berndt
He was blindfolding kids and feeding them semen laced cookies. He was also molesting them and placing roaches on their faces. He was freeballing in short shorts like so he could easily expose himself to his kids. He was convicted on 23 counts. So far 123 victims have sued or settled with the school district.
LAUSD could not fire him. Instead they had to bribe him with $40,000 to retire with a pension of nearly $4,000 per month and health care because it would be too long and difficult of a process to fire him.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Sound about right.
As crazy as it sounds, this was an idea championed by Republicans and Conservatives a while back for eliminating tenure as it is.

Not that crazy since those groups and the teacher's unions have not gotten on well for some time. There are Dems that aren't keen on it either, but it is hard to run as a Dem without the Teacher's Union support, or actively against them.

It's not hard to win a primary as a dem when the teachers unions runs attack ads against you, it's impossible.

I'd think that people concerned about growing government power would embrace a practice that helps to insulates researches and experts from being unduly influenced by said growing government power
The mob can crush your rights just as easily as the king.

Unless there are some really jacked up state laws where you're at, your kid's teacher is completely full of crap.

Considering how we treat Whistleblowers ont he national stage, I think tenure in Academia is needed now more than ever.
Of course, what University is going to hire a tenured professor when they can get an Associate Professor "free-lancer" for much less cost, fewer benefits, and a contract that has to be renegotiated all the time.
K-12 I'm ambivalent about. I can see why we might need to protect teachers from parents with an axe to grind when their kid doesn't get a good grade.

An associate professor usually already has tenure.
Non-tenure track academic jobs are usually adjunct professors, instructors, and lecturers.

The ones that want to be able to say they have a prestigious academic on their faculty, and not as a part time freelancer, but a committed full time member.

Why not assign your kid the extra work yourself?

Two questions.
1. CA or US constitution?
2. What amendment?

CA constitution. It was changed to basicly say the same thing as brown v board of education. Everyone has the right to a good education.
