Wow, love the space fleet artwork.
The Elder ship designs are awesome, I like them much more then the BFG craftworld ships.
The game itself sounds interesting, with the exception of the box lid mechanics.

How funny, it.just shows the time is bright for the great Space Fleet revival!
The trademark has no doubt expired, maybe the Heroes Quest folks can pick it up

Another interesting ship is the Castellan. While the other ships are basically historic navy ships IN SPACE, this was a proper science fiction concept. It could throw up a massive force field and protect your ships, but risked overload if you didn't shut it down from time to time. You'll also notice it doesn't look anything like the rest of the fleet. That's because the Castellan, along with several other support ships and the entire Tyranid fleet were reused from an earlier line called Star Cruisers.

Huh, I am in possession of one of those Castellans, and never knew what it was. Neat!
I am loving these reviews KK! I was but 10 at the time, but I was starting to wargame in those days, and part of me is glad that I didn't have a taste for GW aesthetics then

I now have 3
If/when my last ebay spree arrives I'll have the entire Imperial line.
We'll all need to play a massive Space Fleet game if we're ever on the same continent.

I just have to point this out, because I messaged the artists and asked and yes, yes those are horses prancing by in the background!
I love crazy 40k.

I like how certain companies like Vanguard and Battlefleet helios (also Shapeways) keep the BFG/specefleet alive.

Yea, I am kind of amazed that GW never brought back BFG. The ebay market has always been pretty busy it seems, and with all the other spaceship games popping up in the past 5 years it would seem like an easy win. Instead of, you know, Dreadfleet. Once you get most of the core ship hulls in plastic kits you can make 90% of ships, so you really only need a few kits on the shelves. Just seems like a waste of a great IP.

2 video game adaptions out this year.
And no TT game.
But they did get The Lost @#$^ing Patrol back into shops. Because we were all breathlessly waiting for the return of The Lost @#$^ing Patrol...
Sometimes I really wonder how they are still in business.

Used to have that issue and many more, Got space fleet off the back of it and a few odds and sods to go with it.
Weirdly the as published game was actually quiet fun, already had Star Fleet Battles as a proper game, this one was fun as a knock about.
The artwork was jaw dropping (especially compared to the stuff in the SFB game... or indeed Traveller).
Totally agree the human touches make the images work, thats always been the appeal to me, under all the spikes there are actual people

I'd like to be a fanboy, but they keep fething up every goddamned game I like. If they don't wreck it, they discontinue it.

Thanks for the review and the Spacefleet special, Kid Kyoto. Tony Hough's art was great. I miss b&w stuff like this in today's p&p rpg and tt games.
