Personally, I'm a loyalist son of the Lion, but I can agree that that's some pretty awesome detailing on their shoulders. While decals give a clean look, I enjoy seeing freehand stuff.

I'm set on the silver trim now. I have been doing the power weapons orange, but I would like to start figuring out how to match this pinkish colour from Dawn of War 2.

Looking good! Granted I've never tried it before, but what do you think about blood angels red contrast over emperor's children (pink)? Best I can think of off the top of my head.

New package arrived. I'm excited for the new chaos space marine models, and the venomcrawler. The greater possessed are also really cool, reminds me of the Dark Vengeance box set. I've already started converting away for the berzerker squad.




I'm musing away for my Dark Apostle to attached to the Berzerkers, the wings look really cool, but they might make him much too big compared to the rest of the marines.



Now that I'm dialing in the paint scheme, I'm converting some of the older marines. Starting with the noise marines.



Also need to get everyone on 32mm bases.

Wow! The pink and blue eyes of the Slaaneshi marine look awesome! I thin the Dark Apostle looks great with the wings, I think they look fine once they’re positioned a bit lower

Magnets arrived today, I can finally work on the helbrute. This guy and I have a long history in his incarnation as the chaos dreadnaught in Dawn of War 2, one of my favorite units to base a multiplayer force around.

I did convert the melee marines in that box into possessed myself.
Btw don't be disapointed with the new csm, Equipment wise 7 boltguns or melee Equipment on dosn't Make for Fun options in Building them to hearts content, however they are a pleasure too Look at.
My reccomendation, if you intend on Building havocs aswell use their weaponry to fill missing options .

The box set reminds me of Dark Vengeance in more ways than one. Mostly DV got me addicted to chaos because they had such cool models.

I was slightly disappointed by the marines momentarily, but I was pleased to take away axe man. I do think that autocannon's chest can be better used on full display rather then hidden away as it reminds me of full plate.

The highlights of the box for me, surprisingly, were the master of possession and the greater possessed. Which isn't even why I bought the box, but upon closer look they did a great job capturing pagan religion in the model, reminds me of the Forsworn in Skyrim.

I've managed to corrupt two of my friends into playing 40k *Maniacal laughter* and I've always been a fan of having optional units and combos so the army doesn't get stale.

In this case, I'm excited to try out combining the venomcrawler, greater possessed, master of possession and my 5 possessed in blob of doom.

And another update. I figure it's been long enough since everyone has seen some colour.



Another breakthrough moment was remembering this shade of pink. It is very vibrant, so it serves the purpose of catching eyes on the tabletop. Might switch the power weapons over to it.

Decision time. I picked up the martian ironearth base and have some plants, I realized some better use of colour theory would make the models pop better and red bases will probably be the means to achieve this by contrasting the blue/green. Which means I'll need to change the Blackstone fortress team to red crystal bases.

I'm curious what everyone else thinks of the new red bases vs the grey rubble bases. Plus a little update on the breacher.

The red works, but I would just be careful not to make it "brighter" than your blue, or else it'll be the model making the base pop!

The noise marines have been updated, tabletop standard and I've grown a new appreciation for them. The new size of the chaos space marines are great, but feel irreconcilable beside older marks which conflicts me, as this army tends to do. The goal is about 30 bolter armed marines that are magnetized and can switch weapons and roles on a whim. The older marks, standing beside the new ones, on 32mm bases make them feel like they are completely different and I'm not sure what to do about that. Also progress on the dreadnought.

I'm interested if dakka has input on two subjects:

1. Making the red glow pop on the tabletop. Currently it looks nice up close, but you can't see it on the table.
2. Dakka's opinions on the base change. The red bases make them feel more sinister and the grey bases fit that hive world war zone I so like.

Really like the scheme, comes together nicely, especially on the marines.

For the red, if you want it to pop bring it up to more of a pinky-white at the center. You could also do a TINY bit of OSL in dark red which will bring attention to them.

Oh man, I REALLY like those old school havocs. Which set of torsos are those? Might need to get me some of them.

The havoc torsos were from evilcraft.eu. That website has since disbanded, and I'm not sure the company exists anymore. You can buy the parts from some third party sellers like meeplemart.

Great progress! The breacher looks really sinister, that helmet rocks! I think Gwyns suggestion for the red would work, orange might work too, but the colour palette is quite cold so far, so I reckon pink might be best. As for the bases I think I prefer the red to the grey, but I’m a fan of bases being opposite colours to the minis.

I've repainted a unit of raptors with the base colour. Their silver, eyes, and the rest of the details need to be finished. The Aspiring Champions arms are magnetized, as well as the special weapon marines.

Update

Today I woke up and felt like building something. I've been putting off my obliterators for absolute ages, so I sacrificed another soul to the obliterator virus. I am not very skilled with green stuff, as it tends to stick to everything and I am not aware of it's curing times, but the results are satisfactory. Because I was in a building mood I also finished the backpack for the exalted champion who will be leading the Berzerkers into battle. My painting hand has not been idle either and I've got some photos of some basic painting done on some more marines. I also picked up some static defense.

Iron warriors look great. Neat plasma btw.
