Has anyone every played 30k before, or are we all just making this up as we go along?

I think I can get to 2k with a minimum of building and painting, as long as I can field my MW siccaran venator... which HAS purple... but also green.

Does anyone have any experience building a legal leviathan? I don't think I have rules for it anywhere. I'm using battlescribe to build my army and some of the leviathan entries/options are confusing. I need help from someone who actually has access to the rules.

So, for those of you planning to play 30k against each other... what point value were you looking at?

Do they have Knights in 30k?

Well, if I can take my knights... even just the lancer, it'll really help me with points for the 30k pick-up fights.

Hey guys, just thought I'd give you an update...

Based on what I think I can get done by Adepticon (or done enough)... it looks like I'll have a 2k and a 2.5k EC army (everyone out here likes to play 30k at high point values because of the big, costly, toys so I'm figuring 2k is minimum). I get to 2500 by adding a single Knight Lancer and a few odds & ends. "The Phoenician" isn't accounted for in either of these lists, thus would be a bonus if someone wanted to go higher points.

If someone thinks they want to do lower points, please tell me now so I can account for it. I'm painting specifically to these lists... so you've got to let me know if we're going to do 30k pick-ups at lower point values in case I have to paint something extra to get down there (I have so many of my points tied up in huge models that it may be a bit tricky going down in point value).

Thanks!

That doesn't answer my question.

Hmmm... OK, I'll draw up a 1000 pt and a 1500 point list as well. I'm just assuming everyone plays huge point values all the time because everyone here does.

I think Gunter's army will easily hit the 2.5-3k mark... depending on the wargear and vehicle options taken.

Sounds (and looks) good. Be nice to have the band back together again.

Yeah, thanks for your help with that RiTides. Turned out to be a very good thing.

Keep in mind I'm bringing some of these.... I'm shooting for around 10 total, which should give us some tall 5+ or perhaps even LOS blocking from the big evergreens. I don't know if we're doing winter terrain for the knight fight as well as for our pick-up board... but these are additional options.

You don't have to do that SL... I'm just bringing the winter stuff to go along with my matt and the terrain Ice is bringing so we all at least have one good board to play pickup battles on.

Can I bring a fortification with my extra points?

Well, I figure I'm not going to get much in the way of support for 100 pts... but a VSG might keep me alive long enough to get a chance to go do something fun.

Sure. Now if you don't want people piling up in there... put occupancy restrictions on it. Say, only one or two knights may use the VSG at any one time. That way you won't have a whole team just hiding in their bubble while the other team gets pounded... but you could protect one or two knights from incoming fire, either at the very beginning of the game, or late when they're getting shot up and need repairs (it would work best of someone took a techmarine & some servitors as their support).

VSGs are pretty simple:

50 pts gives you 1 shield, 25 for each thereafter up to 3 total. So full 3 shields = 100 points.

Shields extend 12" beyond the VSG and completely block all ranged attacks. Effectively think of it as a giant, AV 12 vehicle with 1 hull point per shield. You pick a target inside the VSG and shoot at it. Your shots are intercepted by the shield unit you glance or pen the shields AV12 enough to knock them all down, once the shields are down, the rest of your shots continue on to whatever you'd targeted in the first place.

For example. if an assault cannon were to shoot at a VSG with only one shield up, first you would pick the target within the shield... say, a unit of kataphron destroyers with grav cannons. You shoot four shots at the unit, you roll to hit as normal. Misses... miss... they don't do anything to the unit or shield. Say you roll three hits... first they get allocated to the shields. First shot rolls a 3 for armor pen... so it bounces off the shield. Second shot rolls a six... which with an assault cannon (because of rending) would penetrate AV 12 & brings down the shield. Even if it only glanced, it would still bring down the shield. The third hit... which now does not have to worry about any shields... goes on to hit the kataphron destroyers as normal. Roll to wound, etc.

I want to reiterate that "penetrating" and "glancing" a void shield does exactly the same thing... brings down 1 shield. There are no effects beyond this for penetrating shots.

The shields have no effect on anything once you're inside of them, it's only shooting from outside that they block.

Like on a titan, VSG shields replenish on a 5+, roll once per shield at the beginning of the player's turn.

@Master Azalle: I was just going to PM you and suggest you make yourself known. Got your package by-the-way. Thank you!

Well, my Cerastus Lancer is designed as a knight-killer... but it rarely sees another knight and if it does... it's an Eldar one that goes first and kills it outright before it gets to swing. There just may be enough targets in this battle that I'll actually get to see if the Lancer can do what it's designed to do.

Someone could take a unit of Peltasts... that would be fluffy.

Also it's shield works in assault... giving it a slightly better chance to survive an engagement with another knight. It also has some negative effect on other SH walkers/gargantuan creatures in assault. -1 WS maybe... can't remember.

Hell no!!!

I'm pretty sure there's no way on earth I'm going to get my current batch of EC done in time for Adepticon. I'll try and finish one or two things to the point where I'm not embarrassed to put them on the table.

I'm not sure FW has put the rules for those knights in any book (I could be wrong). Perhaps one of the HH books?

Here's my knights, finally all fully based and ready to go. They're packed and in the "done" pile. Now that I have my new case they, along with the VSG fit comfortably in one of my old Battlefoam bags... pluck-foam strewn about to keep everything safe from harm.

Just for giggles, I'll make up lists using all four in a "Household Detachment" at 1500, 1850 and 2k points in case anyone wants to give them a go. I know all-knight lists aren't very competitive, (just too few figures, regardless of how good they are)... but I'd be delighted to trot them out and let someone grav, glance or rend them to death... if for no other reason then to watch the big explosions when they die.

Hey gang, I have a question for you.

I'm torn as to weather I should bring a fourth list or not. It's not a problem if I do, just a bit of extra list building and packing... but it's that much more stuff to lug around. I'll have my AdMech and my knights... both of which can be used to make 40k lists up to Apocalyptic size when combined... and I'll have a small contingent of EC.

I could bring either my Mantis Warriors (which haven't changed significantly in a long time) or my Halloween chaos army, which I don't think most of you have seen in person yet. Or just keep it simple and stick with the AdMech and EC.

Does anyone have a burning desire to play either of the above two armies?

I can do casual, mainly by not using the war convo so I have to pay for everything. Instantly makes the AdMech casual. I can also add some SM or other imperial allies... that tones the list down too (and frankly makes it more fun).

However if everyone else is using their special formations... that leaves me on the short end of the stick.

I can make up two sets of lists, one set using the war convo, the other set without.

The interesting thing about the AdMech is that without the free points and extra rules you get with the War Convocation... they aren't really competitive. The army is just too elite (expensive) and too fragile (T3) to stand up to good competition. So there is a drastic difference in the way the exact same army (in units/figures) will perform depending on whether you're calling it a WarConvo or just what qualifies as a CAD.
