I prefer trukks. You can get firepower in other places and enemies may find it harder but far from impossible to pop the wagons. The tactics are extremely different for using the two and they shape your army a lot, so I suppose what you're putting in them is pretty relevant but I would rather use the trukks. Quantity is the watch word for Orks.

You can buy a genestealer goliath truck/rockgrinder, orkify it a bit, and use it both as a trukk and a battlewagon (not in the same game obviously). It's a bit smaller than the BW but not that much, and nobody will care.
I have 3 ork trukks all look completely different but all the actual model, I also have a converted rhino and a converted leman russ tank that i use as looted wagons that carry around my tank bustas the +1 armour value is huge and its like 5 pts more.
