Not true at all. I own the rule book and I still have the game explained to me when I play. Call it a learning disability or just being plain dumb and forgetful, if you have a nice opponent who will explain as you go is perfectly fine. No need to be rude and saying they need to read the book before starting the game. Lots of people get into the game as they go without reading the book.

Sure you can partly learn the game by asking others to learn you the game, this is how most of us learned the game including me and we all need to reference it once in a while. However asking others to learn you the game (or anything else) without at least taking the effort to read the required books is quite something to ask and too much to ask really if you did not inform the other party beforehand.

Please don't be that guy who shows up to a pick up game without having read his or her codex and or rulebook just as much as you do not want to ask someone to help you with a math problem if you haven't opened your study books.

I see where you are coming from now. I thought you ment someone had to buy a book no matter if in 3 months or so it will be invalidated and wasting money.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

depends on what you have/need. I just unloaded a few ruel books/templates and scatter dice/ d6's from a few dark vengeance boxes all went for around $25 with shipping included. if you lack templates and dice maybe go for ebay. if you do not want to go that route then I would research quick link pages to get the gist of it and watch/play with experienced players. I personally would not spend more than a few bucks for a rulebook at this point (in the template/dice packages you get something you need for 8th probably though so maybe worth it. additionally if you want to play chaos marines or marines dark vengeance is still a good kit just for the models with the rest being just sort of a bonus include
