Nice to see Mercenaries making a strong showing. Ours is the purest motivation.

For all the salt about Cryx it still appears to be one of the top factions played on Dakka. Tied for first place with Circle as of the moment of this post.

If you have some 40k people who might be interested, but don't want to drop cash, you might be able to lure them in with some counts as games. I have been noodling on how to use my old 40k stuff for WMH and came up with some fairly fun things. I have a Khador list with some Cadian "Winter Guard", a Leman Russ "Battle Carriage" (or whatever the battle engine is called, I can never remember), some Terminator "Man o War", and a couple Dreadnought "jacks". I either am going to use an Inquisitor or Marine captain as the caster, depending on who I want.
The nice thing is that all the bases are smaller than WMH bases, so I can just use blue tack to hold the models on the 30mm bases. The only thing that needed a different base was the jacks (40k uses 60mm instead of 50mm) but either you can rebase or just ignore the difference. 10mm matters, but really the point is to get playing, so it can be ignored.

I will dig up the list and post it here. I stalled a bit on putting it together due to lack of time to play and trying to figure out how to make a penitent engine fit on a 50mm base nicely.

I dunno, I might be missing some things, or just bored with the faction after 5+ years, but there hasn't been any fun tricks that have me excited to try them out. Maybe Loki will prove rewarding to clever play in a new way, but I don't know.

FWIW, Loki's drag made shifting stones significantly more interesting as far as I'm concerned.

That does seem like a fun interaction, and I was thinking of a somewhat shooty list that dings up heavies then has a teleported Loki drag them back to kill. It seems like it would work with the Wolfsworn theme, as the beasts get hunter (I think?) and can ignore forests. Pulling a guy 10" or so through a woods, killing him, and then being nearly immune from retaliation seems like fun.
To be fair, there are lists I want to play, it's just that the feel of the faction changed enough that it makes me sad for the good old days. I am mitigating that problem by making lots of counts as lists for other factions to engage in CasualMachine cuddles with RiTides. I have a total conversion/counts as Grayle army using the Wolfsworn force I am interested in getting painted up and putting on the table, as well a as a total conversion Xerxis2 list. That is sort of the measure of my interest, that I don't mind trying things out and enjoying the rules, but I don't want to commit to models I don't like so much. True love is nice, but a series of false loves gives you more variety, and I am just not in love with Circle anymore, and maybe Warmahordes as a whole.

With the exception of a few games it's been non-stop Cryx since the start of MK3 even though I own pretty much everything in Trolls.

I, too, am surprised by the high number of Cryx players. I was getting fed up with the negativity in the PP forum about the faction. Perhaps folks outside of that bubble are just carrying on and doing well.

Iirc Cryc were still popular and doing well in tournaments.

More surprised by how low Everblight are polling.

No surprise. Cryx has been one of the most popular armies in mk2. In mk3, the meta shifted a bit. So I guess that selling Cryx is not so easy these days.

And some players cannot adapt or won't adapt to a new play style. As bad as Cryx was, it wasn't nearly as bad as what happened with Skorne, though it may have been close.

I've seen this comment a fair bit since the start of Cryx's MK3 woes but I've never seen anyone describe exactly what this "new playstyle" is.

True, Skorne took it pretty badly by PP but they also got a nice re-write that seems to have helped some. Cryx is in a pretty bad state and could use the same treatment but I don't think the faction will ever see it. As a person who hopped onto Cryx at the start of MK3 it feels like PP wants to punish Cryx players for something the company did themselves.

True. I am not suggesting I know what it is, since I am as familiar with Cryx as I am with Khador, which is to say, not at all aside from specific units in Mk 2. But I think a good portion is that Cryx now operates on a completely different concepts to work effectively. They may work fine, but people keep trying to run them like their old armies with similar expectations. Skorne worked 'fine", but it was boring and lost all of their tricks while not gaining any new tricks at all.

If things are almost as bad for Cryx as they are for Skorne, I can see them looking at it sometime soon. However, it took them about 3 months to get started on Skorne and 3 months to get Skorne worked on, and with Grymkin taking the attention of the Test group, it may be delayed till then. It depends on if the group that handles new rules also handles erratas.
