Oh man, I would be so down for that, I fething loved that game. One of these days I still really want to get my own Primal Rage cabinet.
Just imagine the trailer for that: You open with a bunch of primitive-looking humans stalking through a jungle, possibly hunting, and you assume it's going to be some kind of prehistoric flick like 10,000 B.C. or whatever. Then you start to notice little details about the hunters that look "off", like you swear someone's wearing a necklace with spark plugs on it or someone's bow looks a touch too "advanced" for the period, then you see the overgrowth clear a bit and it looks like they're walking on pavement. Then you notice past the trees that there are overgrown high-rises in the background. Then you hear a lot of noise and rustling and people start to panic, one or two get picked off and eventually the whole group is running from some giant monkey with dirty, reddish fur, who chases them into an open area like a beach, and you see rusted old oil tankers washed up on the shore and buildings sticking out of the water, so it becomes clear that this is a post-apocalyptic world that nature reclaimed, and mankind has survived but regressed to a tribal society. They look like they're cornered until a giant utahraptor leaps in front of the group with its back to them and roars a challenge at the monkey, which results in all the survivors dropping to the ground and bowing, clutching charms made of feathers and claws, establishing that these primitive humans might worship the giant dinosaur as some kind of god. It ends with the two leaping toward each other and a big "Primal RAGE" logo with glowing letters just like out of the arcade...
...and then everyone in the theater laughs and says "That looks fething stupid."
Oh well, a man can dream I guess.
Anyway, I like the look of Rampage, like others have said it looks like it'll be a fun movie if nothing else. I like monster movies and I'm personally happy to see them making a comeback, from Pacific Rim all the way back in 2013, to Godzilla, Kong, sequels for all three (including a Godzilla vs. Kong movie in the future), and now they're branching out into other properties. I've already seen a ton of complaints though, because that's apparently all people can do anymore. I saw some really angry/annoyed people on Facebook bitching about the change to their "origin stories", like...the game barely even had a story to begin with. You wouldn't have really known that they were supposed to be mutated humans until your character died in the game and shrunk down to a naked human scooting away in shame. It seems like they've changed it to aliens in this one, with mysterious canisters of genetic fethery falling from the sky and mutating unwitting animals. In any case though I can't believe that there are actually Rampage "purists" out there who will probably skip the movie because they got that one apparently
major detail wrong. Personally I kinda like that George is just an intelligent gorilla that the Rock's character has a personal attachment to, in my opinion it has potential to create more tension in the film than if it were just some guy he knew that turned into a monster. Maybe it's just me, but if the monsters all used to be people then I just assume that of course there's going to be some group pushing for a way to try and save them all, trying to win over the military and convince them not to kill them but just to buy them time to find a way to reverse the change or whatever, but since they're just dumb mutated animals on a rampage then the military has no excuse not to just kill them, and they probably don't give two gaks about the Rock's pet monkey, either, so will probably look at them all like they're crazy and either lock them up or tell them to get the hell out of the way. So now you have a man and his friends going against all odds to try and save a creature that no one else cares about, who is actually completely innocent in all this and doesn't want to do what it's doing, that everyone else is actively trying to kill and has no moral qualms doing so. Like I said, I like that more honestly.
I like how in the trailer the characters who find the canister/device are handling it with gloves on, already displaying more intelligence or common sense than the crew from Alien: Covenant did earlier this year.
But yeah, I'm interested, I'm gonna see it, and I really hope it isn't a box office bomb, but I'm fully expecting it to be one because people nowadays simply refuse to have fun at the movies anymore. Same thing happened with Pacific Rim, everyone thinks they're just "too smart" for movies like this and they want everything to be deep, multi-layered, philosophical, etc...which is why movies like The Emoji Movie and literally everything Marvel puts out always do so well, I guess, right? Calling it now, "2/10, stupid movie, should have just nuked the monsters but then there would be no movie lel"

Allegedly Dwayne Johnson was the one who was really pushing for the movie to be made in the first place. Not 100% sure if that's true but he's been posting about Rampage for a while now on social media and I'd personally believe it, but if that's the case then there probably wouldn't be a movie at all if he weren't in it. The studio most likely saw this as a gamble and might be counting on his star power to make the movie a success (or at least not a bomb).
Although I get what everyone's saying, I understand why they don't like him (he's actually a really cool guy in general, but he's not exactly the best actor and he kinda plays the same character in everything) and why him being in the film probably ruins it for them.
