There's are factions I'm not particularly interested in but none I actively dislike. At least not that I can think of right now.

I like them all, but if I had to pick one to eliminate it'd be chaos demons. I get that the setting is grim dark space opera more than sci fi, but at least to me demons are more akin to a pure fantasy setting.

On a side note I believe the current game relies too much on magic (psionics) for my tastes as well. A little is great, but having whole armies rely on it also seems out of place for me.

I'm actually pretty cool with all factions. I definitely think the Tau could use more fleshing out, but then again I've only been reading through the HH series and AFAIK the Tau never show up in those. Still, I think they need a decent injection of Grimdark before I can really warm up to them, but they still appeal to me "giant mech" itch. Granted, I lean more towards Mechwarrior than Gundam, (hence my love for ork walkers) but the battlesuits still look neat to me.

Tau wasn't around yet during HH. They are a much younger race than any other in the setting. That's part of their appeal. They're young and naive and optimistic in a grim darkness of the far future. I liked the fluff snippet where they realized Space Marines had actual human being inside their guided missiles and were like "wtf are these gue'la doing, shouldn't this be done by AI?". It tells us the Tau don't even realize the vastness of the Imperium and the untold billions of humans they have available. Neither do they know about the past perils of humans dabbling with an AI.

That sounds interesting, got a link for that?

I'd not say I like all the factions, but I like that they're all pretty much in spitting distance of what I'd like...generally in the direction of a darker, grimmer universe.

For example, I love the Tau having a darker side of genociding populations and their auxiliaries, Tyranids being the hyper-adaptive bio-Borg, or Necrons being pissed off killing machines that just want to eliminate life. They're's not far off, but not quite there yet, either. For me, it's the idea of a continual free-for-all for survival in the 40k universe that's appealing.

I like most of the factions, but not new'crons. I LOVED old'cron fluff and aesthetic, and I think it is really cool. Old'crons are the faction that got me into 40k.

But then the new'crons happened, and I hate the new'cron fluff and despise the over-the-top Egyptian theme. I held out hope for a while that they would retcon them back to the way they were, but recently I realized that is never going to happen and the faction I loved exists only in my head. Now I HATE new'crons with a burning passion, they are a perversion of every thing I know the Necrons to be and a constant reminder that my favorite faction will never exist!

Same here, oldcrons were what got me into 40k. Wardcrons got me to more or less stop collecting them and shove them to the side as a secondary army while CSM have taken up the role of my primary army.

It also didn't help that wardcrons invalidated my favorite Necron Lord build as well (warscythe, veil of darkness, and nightmare shroud). I have a very deep seated hatred for Matticus Wardicus.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

I don't have a link but I'm pretty sure it was in Kayuon or Mont'ka books.

I like all the 40k Factions. They all have a great place in the narrative.

The only one that I have never really jived with but had no issue with are the Tau. But that said I like the miniatures.

Recasts are like Fight Cub. No one talks about it, but more people do it then you realize.

I like them all, and I am a huge Imperium fanboy. My only non human army is Tyranids, and if I had to start up another faction it'd probably be Dark Eldar. I quite like their viciousness and design aesthetic. Chaos has never interested me (fanboy) but I like the rules and narrative. Orks are just plain cool. Necrons are great looking and have nice fluff, Eldar are gorgeous but I am not interested in trying to paint them. I dabbled in Tau for a short bit, painted up about 500-600 points worth, then shelved them and went back to the Imperium.

I don't like all of the factions.

Factions I do like: All the Imperial ones. Even Ultramarines.

Factions that have their moments but which I'd still like to see righteously destroyed: Eldar, Necrons, Orks,

Factions which I'd like to see righteously destroyed: All the others.

Yeah.

Yeah, you're definitely not odd, but people who don't like some factions are probably less likely to post their rant here.

I like them all to some degree too. I like the orcs look, but I dislike the comedy element.

I disliked Chaos when I first played (2nd or 3rd), but that was before the factions had different flavors and there was more of that "punk rock" thing going on - with like the marines with guitars and mo-hawks.

There are various other things I dislike about other factions enough that I wouldn't play the faction; usually key models. ie: eldar's tanks are ugly to me. However, i still like the eldar, their fluff, etc.

I think they're at a good place right now, and the current edition reminds me a lot of 3rd. I think what they accomplished is similar to the transition from 2nd to 3rd.
I feel like now is not the time to add new armies, but get more players into the game and hopefully reap the rewards of warhammer achieving some vintage recirculation status.
