I was interested in painting my plague drones carapace with this paint. Thought the green/purple would make it look like a pearlescent beetle shell. I stayed away from it because they only sold the bulk box like another poster mentioned. I think these would look great on eldar vehicles.

I think i saw an FB post the day that they're now selling them in singles...

just checked & yes they do! 4.15 Euros per pot: http://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/chameleon-acrylic-paints/686-chameleon-colorshift-martian-green-paint.html

How much????

Even if I add these to the INSTAR range we wouldn’t be that extortionate!

Our Metallics for 20ml are £2.29/€2.62

But these aren't metallics, they are polychromatic paint. They are a very different beast.

Yep, I can only assume the flake GSW is using is at least as expensive as the automotive flake, which runs about a dollar a gram and runs about 25 grams to the liter.

Depends on the supplier, when we were looking into it we could get a finer grain and a similar effect and still keep the cost low.

This is the reason INSTAR exists to give a fairer price to the community.

That’s not to say the paint doesn’t look amazing (because it does) but that’s a very steep price....

oh goodness im back to the thread i started and no surprise supershandy is here

Congrats on the website.

The price...... i dunno iv bought automotive flakes before as well as some taiwan gundam death chemical that i swear gave me cancer and the former the flakes are too big and the lather takes 2 months to ship but the flakes are perfect. but both are fairly expensive compared to the GSW stuff.

also alclad II paints are fairly expensive.

but then i dont know how well this stuff works or if its a lacquer or water based formula. (i actually like it in lacquer as it dries super fast and strong though it kills my airbrush)

Anyone had a chance to try these out?

barely, but first impression was not good. did a lot of testing with shading allso, so no point in showcasing my test.
using brush and trying a gold/red tone, even with 6 thin layers there was not a solid basecoat. i can see the colour change of the paint, but the black primer still shines true, so the paint is realy thin. (and the first layer i did the gold/red appeard as green......)
so that lead me to the conclusion that this is airbrush paint.
ordered a cheap airbrush as i dont want to taint the only 1 i have with metalics. it should arrive later this week and i will continue to test then, but brush job is prolly just for the highlights after you have shaded the model.

Did you watch their videos for using their paints?

i did.
idk maybe the green one in the vid is different to the gold one.
my airbrush arrived today, so using a different paintbrush then last time i did a new test. 3 thin layers in and the colour is not covering the black primer. meanwhile 3 coats with the airbrush and i have the same result as showcased on their colour demo vid.

so yea, airbrush for the basecoat, paintbrush for highlights. (atleast for burning gold)

i have no other models i want to use the other paints on atm so cant realy test the range fully. i bought these to be used on firestorm armada when that game is rebooted and other space ship games.

Ok so my order came in and i gave storm surge green a shot.

turns out its the same kinda flakes as the automotive stuff which particle sizes makes the model incredibly glittery

the effect works 100% it goes from green to blue.

little disappointed though personally. i think i will stick to my taiwan death chemicals

We’re going to be looking at introducing one in about a week or so, should be a finer grain as well so less “glittery”

We'll find out soon enough eh.

If you guys can pull of a tealish green-blue(green dominant) and a blue-purple(blue dominant) where the blue is the same in both paints, Alpha Legion players everywhere will owe you a debt.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Iv seen a cosmic one somewhere that is green blue AND purple color shifting. was thinking about it but i prefer the normal green - blue from the picture.

Hi there, Apologies for resurrecting this thread but since people were interested in it, we've just released our versions of Chameleon Metallics, we've only got four paints available though at the moment!

Nice - anyone have shots of what the Red-White metallic looks like on a model?

We’ll try and get some shots up when we get the opportunity, we have had a customer already buy some so they may get there before we do

We will say though, it’s really really good, excellent for scales and gemstones!

I bought a bottle because it could be a cool effect if it works out. Going to start testing immediately. If all goes well this will result in shiny, oily toxic waste terrain.
