Haha, too true. Though aelves and human outriders seem to manage.

Likely we'll see a new breed of realm horse in the future (the multi-legged ones Odin uses would be sweet) with Ghur-stryders probably being a early name-drop.

I got demigryphs and the vanguard's demi-hippogryphs though so I'm good until then.

Just reading this thread and going through the fluff etc has put me off AOs pretty quickly. I think I'll just grab some models off eBay and paint them up for fun. Quite expensive though!

Aw, that's a pity but understandable.

Good luck bargain hunting! The scalpers struck hard at the outset of their discontinuation so look at other companies like the historicals and places like GameZone.

Tried bidding for 15 Knights of the realm... Ended up 51 pounds...

Think I'll buy some empire units for my averland army while gw still sell them!

Once the Brets got moved to a legacy and compendium army I tried a few ways of bringing them back into the floof:

I finally settled on a kitbash after even the compendium scrolls got further crushed, and old character names were superceded. That and the whole army was just super expensive point wise.

What one needs to know about AoS is that the game is designed to be simple and allows big stompy monsters, epic abilities and loads of troops being lead by awesome heroes.
It's for having epic battles with your miniatures. "Your miniatures" preferably being the new and amazing things that the Mortal Realms can offer (with it's extra high magic epic fantasy setting), but the Old World (in the sword and sorcery setting with an eternal stalemate) could not.

If you want more generic fantasy then there are other games.
I favour Kings of War, which is less EPIC in favour of balance and has an army list made to accommodate Bretonian and other medieval models.

This thread has made me regret buying a bunch of old chaos dwarves. But I think the bull centaurs would make good skullcrusher proxies should they get nixed. I think the iron daemons I made could be skull cannons. Just need more red.

There are several online communities for playing older versions of Warhammer, as well as other game systems that cater to similar play style to Warhammer. Depending on which edition you play, you might still be able to get games in once you get your models.

www.classichammer.com

For 4-6th WFB, 2-5th 40k, and similar timeframe gaming

Looking for dice from the new AOS boxed set and Dark Imperium on the cheap. Let me know if you can help.

Its AoS, it doesn't have to make sense.
