Well my Wood Elf Battalion box set finally arrived yesterday, and wow. I love the Wood Elves. And I REALLY love the Dryands. I had no idea they were going to come with so much variety.
I am more an Empire guy who likes traditional looking armies with a mix of standard troops with some firepower. Never, never for the life of me would I ever think I would like Wood Elves. And when I was looking online on how to paint them, I was surprised that many of the models are still being sold under the Synvaneth line (minus the elves), and I love the look of some of them like the Treelords and Branchwraiths. Even cooler are the little scenery and little creatures that come on the sprues. I am not sure how to use them yet, as I typically do not decorate my stands much. For some armies I don't even know what I would do. So I am eager to do something with these bits even if it just to decorate terrain. I wish the other armies included hits like these. As a matter of fact, its motivated me to look at some 3rd party terrain stuff to add to the atmosphere of the gaming board.
Eternal Guard are on my list, but I am trying to figure out how I could convert some of my Glade Guard archers to the ones with spears. The battalion comes with some but not enough. Maybe I can hunt for some bits.
I was thinking of hunting down a Spellsinger (the female one with the staff), but not sure what model to go for my Commander.
I am really surprised by this set. I only got it because it was cheap and thought why not. Now it might be one of my favorite WFB armies. If I ever spring for some kind of lord model, it will probably be a Treeman Ancient.
