If Bangkok still exists in the 41st millennium, then Earth is the worst planet for sure. Bangkok is simply the worst place I have ever visited. It stands to reason that the worst planet is home to the worst city, right?

I doubt Bangkok still exists.

It's buried under the dross of 38,000+ years of human detritus.
(so more or less unchanged from now ... )

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Maybe some cultists steal it as offerings to Nurgle.

Even though they are no longer ruled by the Imperium, daemon worlds within the borders are probably the worst. Most of the Imperium's most wretched planets will take your life, but few will literally take your soul as well.

Insert name of penal world here.

I vote for Catachan too- that planet is literally impossible for humans to survive on without external support- Catachan has supplies shipped to it from the wider Imperium in return for excellent soldiers.

Every living thing on the planet is in some way lethal to humans, be it poisonous, actively violent, or both. Frankly, it's surprising it isn't a SM recruiting world There is a reason that Catachan is the most infamous deathworld in the Imperium- the dictionary definition of deathworlds.

I would also mention pre-fall Cadia as a terrible place to live. Forced conscription in a ruthless military from birth to death; life in a monitered fortress in an acitve warzone; mind numbing and body breaking exercises everyday when you aren't in combat or in sentry duty; life a stone throw away from hell itself. The only positive part is that polution, crushing poverty and overpopulation isn't an issue.

Everyone is recruited into the military, but not everyone is on constant active duty. Cadia still needs a civilian infrastructure, bureaucrats etc. It is just that the entire population is at least a reservist, but could be a full-time soldier. It is basically an entire planet with compulsory national service, no loopholes, and an extremely high proportion of active soldiers.

However, everyone is incredibly well indoctrinated, so they seemed reasonably happy before the Fall of Cadia It was a well ordered, well protected world with reasonable facilities. Outside of wartime, it was probably a decent planet to live on compared to many Imperial planets.

Scotland, but nowhere near my rulebook

The Eisenhorn novel implies that there's a LOT of cult activity on Cadia, that it "Breed recidivists like a pond breeds scum" and that the ever present glow of the Eye of Terror makes you a bit... nuts.

Unless you are a noble/upper class almost every planet in the imperium would be a hellhole for us.

Your best bet for at least a decent life that we are accustomed to living in the west would be an agri world or a world in Ultramar.

Otherwise you are either working grueling 18 hour shifts where you will most probably die at your workbench. Fighting for your life against Gangers mutants heretics orks ect or living on a deathworld with the spectre of death by starvation wild beasts rival tribe members always close by.

The Imperium has plenty of "civilized" worlds that are comparable to modern Earth in terms of freedoms and amenities (as long as you followed the God-Emperor and paid your taxes, at any rate).

you mean continents full of what is essentially slave labour supporting the ferocious appetites of those few wealthy populations?

Not necessarily. There definitely are those types of worlds, but there have been mentions of more comfortable worlds spread out. The Imperium is an incredibly diverse place, and every planet is different.

No. Go read the Ciaphas Cain books, or the Gaunt's Ghosts books, both of which show planets that are "civilized" planets by the definition I was using; planets where the people are NOT oppressed, and have economies that match up with what you'd expect in first world countries, but with a sci-fi flavor. They're actually fairly pleasant to live in, even if they face conflict a bit more often than most first world countries do.

Some good examples in the Eisenhorn and Ravenor books too. Gudrun is an especially good example.

Imperium: Armageddon. Awful hive cities and endless factories are the best you can hope for. The world is one big battleground for orks and freaking demons. Oh, and if you are unlucky enough to fight those demons you get "BLAMED" by the inquisition.

I think the worst planet in general though would have to be Mortarian's plague planet. Even compared to other demon worlds it seems like the worst hell.

For every "civilized" world there are a 100 Armageddon like hellholes.

The nicer planets probably outnumber the horrible ones, because they are where most of the food is grown that supports the horrible worlds.

Now, in population terms, yup, far more likely to be born into a grimy hive world like Necromunds or Minea and life a gak life. Simply because the populations of hive worlds are huuuge.

Nice try on moving the goalposts. Just admit you were wrong and move on.

The number of "civilized" worlds actually named in lore outnumbers all other worlds named, to my memory. The hellholes are notable because they're so hellish.
