Painting more bugs for the endless swarm is always a good thing. Can’t stop until you can carpet the table!

Nice color exercise on the horrors. Things like accent colors and bases will help them look like a unit once you do that last step. And frankly, tzeench demons should look like a chaotic riot anyway.

Back again after some slight bug burn out and trying to figure out what to do when I finally run out of Rhinox Hide spray.
Still have about 1.25 cans left and grabbed a can of krylon camouflage brown to test out to see if it's close enough. I'd rather figure it out before I run out completely.

Got another 7 stealers done (the 8th felt a bit flimsy on its base so its set aside since I was going to end up with 4 spares anyway)

Also in the middle of working on a Hive Tyrant.

Used spare spikes and mandibles from the trygon to make fingers for what used to be boneswords to make them into rending claws. I was originally going to put wings on this guy, but I kind of like the idea of a hive tyrant walking up surrounded by the little bugs as well. Also cut down the tendril that goes into the venom cannon which was all it needed to be able to repose it so it looks like he's aiming it.

Also spent about 250 from my tax refund to grab some more bugs to work on: a final box of genestealers, 2 more boxes of termagants, and a tervigon to lead them. I've seen people mixed on the tervigon but I figure if I'm going to run 60 termagants it'll probably be pretty fun to bring along too.

EDIT: Testing the spray out on a board today, still drying at the moment but it looks like its a pretty close match to rhinox hide so far.

Bugs!

<Pulls out the flamer to purge the thread>

Nice to see you still at it. Tyrant is looking cool, If you didn’t tell me what parts you had modded, I would not have known, which is the mark of a seamless job!

I can’t really speak to what works for ‘nids on the table these days. But painting what you like is always a decent plan. Rules come and go, but cool models are forever.

Thanks

Yeh, I don't get the appeal of trying to chase power either. Takes me so long that by the time everything was done it wouldn't even be the best anymore anyway.

Hive Tyrant is done. Wasn't sure of the eyes for a while, and was on the fence between glowing or just the same as the other bugs but figured they could glow for the psykers/synapse then; although if I do something like zoans or a neuro I'm going to need to make it glow more I think.

So back to working on models after a bit of a break, managed to finally get in a couple of games with the tyranids which was nice. One against orks and another against custodes.

Also got the urge to work on some Tau again for a bit. It's still more Xenos.

Only magnetised these cyclic ion blasters, but in the past when I've had weapon options I've always just glued the guns on so they're at least being left open for the future at the moment in case I want to run them differently.

Crisis suits always struck me as a unit that could do with magnets. Lots of roles, lots of options.

Should be fun to paint.

And good on getting some games in!

Found a use for some leftover scions I had laying around.

Got some mould lines to clean up.

Been thinking on giving it a try for a few weeks, then finally got to it today. Originally I wanted to put pulse rifles on the scions arms but I didn't like how it looked so decided to just go with firewarrior arms. Means I need to wait for the left arms to show up cause I only ordered ones with pulse rifles before.
Also figured the breacher helmet was a better idea cause I'd have a ton laying around and they're a little bulkier than the strike team ones.

A Mostly Renegades and Heretics blog.
GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Painted up mollog and friends. they've sat around in bare purple plastic for too long.
Also tried out contrast paints a bit, not so sure of them.

Just finished these. Planning on doing 3 more rockguts and going for the troggherd battalion eventually, but don't have any more models for it yet.

I like how they turned out, the rocks as well since those were basically painted the same as the rest but a mix of nuln oil and contrast basilicanum grey. Don't know the exact mix but was more like loading up the brush with nuln then a light dab of the contrast added in. Not sure if I'd do more in red or go with another colour like some sort of orange.

Love those Troggoths, the red really makes them stand out.

Liking the tyranids as well, glad you were able to find a replacement spray!

Thanks,

The red of the Troggoths is really nice, makes them look more aggressive then their blue brethren you see with the official scheme. Especially love the color shift on the more stony parts of their skin!
What would round the models off for me would be a some contrast on the fingernails, something in the direction of Ushbati Bone or such like.

So I've decided to reboot my old sisters of battle army. Not sure how many of the old metal ones I'll use since they might be annoying with the bases I've got set aside for the army, but I've stripped everything I had. For now though all they have is this knight I've been procrastinating on painting. The guns are on different arms because I've had it sitting around as a warden for a while now, but I felt like a crusader with that thermal cannon would be cooler. Been ages since I've painted white as well I think.

Still haven't learnt that I shouldn't actually glue the armour plates on until after its painted though.

Nice to see you painting. Looking forward to seeing your sisters again.

White is always a joy to work with. /sarcasm

Working with white hasn't been too bad, I think I worked through all the pain the last time.
For the knight I did at first spray all the way up to grey seer then realised the fun I'd created since I'd have to darken all the parts that wouldn't be white so went back to mechanicus standard after black again to make sure it wouldn't look off.

Anyway finally had a good enough break in the weather to be able to varnish the rhino to finish it off. Started to rain lightly the second I finished spraying it so had to quickly bring it inside and luckily it didn't mess up.
Top hatch is a little messed up because this was a spare razorback for some marines I hadn't painted yet.

Very cool nids!
I was thinking making mine light or dark, and now I think dark

Got a name for your sisters?

Thanks.

I haven't thought up a name for the sisters yet. Also hopefully they come back in stock soon cause I don't have any of the new plastic ones yet.

Nice color choice, very serene instead of ghastly war colors. I find that refreshing.

A nice, refreshing take on the sisters. Will be interesting to see how it translates across to the infantry

Thanks, I'm hoping it'll turn out alright on the infantry. I think the old metal sisters may be too compact for it but the original idea was to have white armour and robes but to add colour by putting the freehand pattern on the robes.

Anyway haven't shown WIP shots for a bit, this vindicare is about halfway done.

Finally some sisters. Going with a rocky base this time around and have a bunch of resin ones waiting.

Also have a couple of warglaives which I had primed from around the time of that crusader so might paint them up for this as well. Might even be better than running the crusader sometimes because it'd be less points.

Vindicare is done.

I feel like I should have maybe done the bullets in a bronze colour instead of the silver but wanted to keep it really limited and maybe a bit stealthy. Though I then made the plume on his knife at least tie into the army's colour scheme after it which isn't that stealthy.

I think I'll finally change the thread title to match my name change next update as well.

Real stealth and camo is boring. Especially at tabletop distance. Your finished mini just ends up looking like an indistinct blob. That’s what camo does IRL. So I always like to add little spots of color to liven up the stealthy guys. It also helps tie them into the army.

Plus it makes it less likely you’ll forget to shoot with them during the game.

The Vind doesn’t have a whole lot of spots to add a little pop color, I’d take the ones you can.

I’m glad you didn’t change the thread name right away. I would have missed it if you had switched both your user and thread name at the same time. One of these days I’ll actually get around to subscribing to threads; right now I just keep an eye out for ones I follow updating.

Very subdued Vindicare. One can hear the comms transmissions from his enemies: "Sir, there is a pruple handkerchief floating over the battlefield." "Leave it, probably just the wind."

And a very nice paint scheme for the sisters, with lovely freehand. Can't wait for the first infantry models!

I usually hope they forget about my stealth guys before I do.
And thanks for the comments about the paint scheme. This isn't much of an update cause no models to show, but I was brainstorming on how to actually paint it a bit more tonight after I finally managed to track down and order a box of sisters that should hopefully arrive in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I'm able to find more sooner instead of having to wait the entire time.

Anyway this was the way I pictured it at first.

Which felt a bit off after I finally had it in front of me. Decided straight away that instead of keeping the weapon casing white as well with some freehand to match the cloth, it'd look much better black and breaking it up a little bit.

I also thought up a darker black and grey scheme, but decided not to go any further with it.

I then researched more by looking at kimonos and stuff for inspiration on what to do with the free hand cause I was thinking of getting rid of the base branch and having both ends with the flowers then tried out changing up the freehand a tiny bit like this.

Which already looks much better with it taking up 2/3 of the cloth space instead, plus I think it kind of looks better more natural instead of trying to be a bit symmetrical and it's also a lot easier to paint.

I quickly threw it onto the first picture and this is a rough idea of how it should look.

Also I think it'd likely look a lot better on the new plastic sisters since theyre more open and have larger flat spaces. The metal sisters are actually really compact which would probably make it harder to break up the white this way. As for hair colour, I don't really like having it one uniform colour but a neutral scheme like this will probably let me mess around with whatever colour I want even unnatural ones like blue or pink.

So finally back and with the first SoB done, but I ended up going with a completely different colourscheme after all that brainstorming.
I'm trying a completely metallic scheme as something new to me.

Which was fine until I thought, what if I also did a completely different base as well; like what if the base was also metallic. Luckily gamers grass makes some alien tufts, these look brighter side on then more blue from the top, cause I figured it'd also be a good chance to experiment with a more alien type of planet rather than the usual earth like bases I've always done. So the bases are actually a really dark slightly metallic purple. Also upgraded my phone finally from a s5 to a s9+ and these are actually the first pictures I've taken with it so far; I still suck at getting good pictures of metallic paint schemes though.
Abyway I've got the other 9 from that first box ready to paint with another 5 either on the way or in the middle of being built; kind of going slightly horde with them at the moment. I messed up one of the bolters when I was drilling out the barrels though, so I did plan to give all the battle sisters just bolters but ended up giving that one a heavy flamer which is fine and probably more fun anyway. Could run a couple squads of flamer and heavy flamer to push for objectives while having a few stormbolter and heavy bolter to hold other objectives. As for the hair colour I think I'm going to go with blonde so it fits in with the gold spot colour, keeping the heads off to paint separately unless they're helmeted.

Another thing about this scheme is this is the original way I painted the very first sisters I had.

Then I tried this.

Although this wasn't even the colour scheme I went with when I fleshed them out more into a full army, which was this.

So this new scheme will probably be a bit rough for a bit, but I think it'll probably look pretty nice en masse over the 60+ battle sisters.

Second is done, leaving the heads off and painting them on the sprue instead makes it so much easier to paint faces. This is also the first time I've painted a human face in years. I think since the ultramarines which could be about 4-5 years now.
