Subject: Techpriest's Admech Army Thread (Updated 09-13 Electro-Priest Test Model)
I feel like it's been slow here too. But forums just aren't as central as they used to be and haven't been for a while.
Any which way, i really like that priest! I definitely am one of the ones who always thought that model looked a bit unappealing, but painted like you have it here it works well.
realism is a lie

Subject: Techpriest's Admech Army Thread (Updated 09-13 Electro-Priest Test Model)
That's sad to hear, this used to be a really active painting and modeling community.
Thanks, when I started the army the Electro-Priest was a model I really didn't like and didn't think I'd be running. Then I decided to pick some up and after working on it I have a lot of appreciation for the subtle complexity of the models. You're also not the first to mention that they didn't think as much of the model with the normal paint scheme but likes the alternative look.
Thanks for the answers guys. I did prefer the left a bit more, as I think the heavy contrast works better with my style, but there are some aspects I like about the right one as well that I can use.
Thanks, and yea the cables ended up really adding to the model but you can probably see my level effort and care depending on the model you look at in them as well.
Well, just 5-15 more to go, but first I'll probably do something different. Hopefully by the time I come back to them I have actual skin tone paints, as opposed to just mixing brown, red, and white to get what I need.

Hey mate! Brilliant army you have going so far. I'll join the choir of people crying their love for the colour scheme - it's very different to the usual Ad Mech look but it just works - equal parts subdued/grungy and swanky with the NMM.
Electro priests do look great together, I agree that the cables help make them pop (colours kind of remind me of coral/milk snakes), but also shout out to the electric blue tattoos (?) they are rocking, really striking. Love the caveman mixing of the flesh tone too!
The dunecrawler is very impressive too. It's a super busy model - has a lot of detail but also lots of large flat areas which are my absolute nightmare. The gold stripe really pops on it, well done.
I think forums are slowly being eaten by faster social media, facebook pages and instagram. I have started posting a few bits on reddit too, and engagement there is pretty high, but I find their interface super confusing/user unfriendly and it just feels less personal/solid/stable than a thread on a forum. Plus after a day or two (or less if you don't get a heap of likes at the start) your post drops off the face of the earth. I dunno - the world is moving too fast!
I am glad you have shared your army here and I hope we continue to see updates as you work through them.

Thanks for all of the kind words, I'm always surprised by how well the scheme has come together and how much people have enjoyed it. The group photos especially motivate me to keep working on it as I get to see it come together.
The Dunecrawler is one of my favorites and a model that pushed me into the army. It's absolutely amazing how complex the Admech models are, even the ones that look simple, such as the Electro-Priests end up being way more complicated than first expected. I have no idea how anyone managed to sculpt these, but bravo to them and their skill.
I agree with you on the social media aspect, there are a whole lot of places to go to post these days and many times more generalized social media wins out due to being a one stop shop as opposed to specialty forum sites. I still like sites like this though, even if I did initially start by posting my work on Reddit in the Admech sub.
Once again, thanks, it's awesome to have good feedback from those who like my work. I'm already working on the next model but there will probably be some delay as I have a busy week coming up. That being said, I also plan to make some Youtube content in the near future about how to approach getting into AdMech as an army and what to consider when building an army as someone new getting into the game or faction. Just seems like there are a lot of similar questions that pop up all the time on Reddit from new recruits and there isn't anything that functions as a guide on how to plan for your first purchase, your first 500pts, your next 500pts, and so on.
Nice update. Will try and check the channel out, always nice to have a few things to listen to while hobbying!
Really impressive work on the breacher. Crazy how well it holds up under the light and photography - I usually hate looking at my minis this close up, but he really shines! Looks like a lot of time and effort went into him. Does he have any friends on the way?

Subject: Techpriest's Admech Army Thread (Updated 10-31 Breacher Finished!)
Thanks, and I'm really surprised by how well received my channel has been so far, it's already passed 1k views, 100 hours of watch time, and is almost at 100 subs. Way more than I expected, so I'm very happy with that.
As for looking at models close up, I can tell you that I hate looking at mine. I think this is probably true for most people as their mind knows where all of the errors are and seeing it enlarged only makes them stick out more. Though I have noticed over time I usually end up liking my models more, as I probably forget where the pain points are and can enjoy the whole without as much distraction.
As for his friends, he's going to get 14 to 24 more friends, so there's a lot more work to do. I think I'll photograph the next one I do in steps and turn it into a video to show how the process looks of painting something like this. Though I don't think I'll tackle all of them in one go, I might get up to five or so and work on some other units, or maybe I'll work on multiple things at once, jumping to different models in intervals.

Decided to paint up a Sister of Battle for a new video series, it was a good break from painting my normal models and an opportunity to learn a little more about painting faces/hair, but back to work on Admech.
Viterbi wrote: That's a great color scheme for sisters, but I feel, there's something wrong with her legs
She doesn't need legs, for the emperor is her legs. But yea, I needed something for the title card and Shadowlands came out the same week, so it was hard to finish it completely.
I did have way more fun painting her than I'd expect, the model is just beautiful in terms of sculpt.
tzurk wrote: Looks like she is reading her toddler's favourite bedtime book for the fifth "last time" in a row...been there, felt that!
Glad to see you're getting some attention and feedback on youtube. It's not an endless void out there!
"And the Emperor was all powerful..."
"Mommy, if the Emperor is all powerful, could he make a rock even he couldn't lift?"
"We talked about questions like this Sweetie! Now I have to reread you the part about questioning the Emperor again!"
I'm really amazed by how well my channel has done so far. I expected to maybe reach 100 subscribers by the end of the year, and now I'm at over 300 with a watch time getting close to one thousand hours, which has just blown me away. It's a lot of fun making videos too, but it does take a lot of time even with my minimalistic video editing.
I'm still working on a paint guide for my next Kataphron, with only the arms left at this point, but I've been rather distracted for the past two weeks almost. I really need to get back to painting my Admech, I miss it.

Good to see the videos still kicking along! I don't think I fully appreciated how big these dudes are - it's definitely a lot of model for your Troops slot. Worthy of the great paintjob you've given them here. Lovely step by step process in the video too. I often find real-time videos to be too busy/distracting - the still images actually make it easier to follow for me.
Here's to another year of Ad Mech goodness!

It's been a crazy ride as I started the channel back in October with what I thought was a rather extreme goal of hitting one hundred subscribers by the end of the year, and now I'm at over 600, so the support has really been mind blowing in that regard. Not to mention that I think the comment section on the videos is fantastic with a lot of people sharing their ideas as well as pointing out any errors which helps me improve. As for painting videos, the layout is partially because I don't have a good set up for recording live painting footage and I tend to have a somewhat odd sitting position while painting that would make it harder to capture video, and it's partially because when I look for painting information I'm usually looking for an image guide first that just shows a set of images, and then I'll look for a video if I need additional clarification. So in that sense I completely agree that real time can be both cumbersome and limited in showing only a single part of the overall scheme as opposed to a whole model being painted.
Definitely, and my goal is to finish painting the army in 2021, as I made a good dent last year, but I really need to stop being such a slacker and pick up the pace.
Viterbi wrote: That's a cool look, love the color for the upper part, that skull looks very eerie.
Thanks, as a whole I took my time and painted the upper half first, and intended to leave the lower half unpainted as it was just for the title card, but once I saw it together I decided it would be best to quick paint the lower half so it didn't look quite as awkward. The scheme as a whole was very experimental and I've learned a few things while working on it.
