I think I purchased some that were for heroic scale aka warhammer as the intended audience. Between that and the design type yeah they were pretty goofy looking.
On the note of the game itself, who is returning and who is giving it a first-time go? My 2nd edition rules and special Axis mini just arrived.

Nice camo on the older spinne mech variant. I'm giving K47 a go for the first time, about halfway done painting the 2 player starter set so far. Hopefully it sells well and has lasting support for years to come.

They are going all-in with it, and it certainly seems to be a popular release. I hope you post some pics of your painted models somewhere, and thanks for the props on my camo.

The latest painting is looking slick as ever, mate. For gasmasks, I'm not sure if they're accessible to you but Westwind miniatures do a series of gasmask heads at slightly smaller scale that might work for your Japanese..

thank you for the props Ragsta, always appreciated. Those gas mask heads are stunning. just perfect. would be hard to obtain affordably right now due to all the nonsense going on in the States. I hit eBay -- and they had all but the soviet, which I'd want for Japan. I also may be pivoting to soviets as my 2nd army, I'm just so enamored with the Ursus bears and the troops with hoods. Most of what I own for japan is basic infantry and older models. In addition, I'm not sure I'll be a skilled player enough to field the Japanese. Very finesse army now.
Regardless, I need to return to this systems on my hobby desk! I want to do some more of my axis for now. I'll post pics when I do, and ,time permitting , will get some of those westind asap.
Cheers and thanks.
