Made a present for my mother, a non metallic metal necron. First time I ever tried my hand at nmm, I think I did good. Feel free to tell me otherwise though.

This month's entry was the Hive flyrant, thought to add the challenge thread's pics in here too not to lose sight of it.

The necron looks rather plain IMHO. I really like your take on the Hive Tyrant though. Great work!

Thanks, but on the necron, how is it plain? You realise I used no metallic paints right? The attempt was to do a nmm styled paint.

I started with mournfang brown on it and then worked with layers of rosepink of various blends (an amsterdam paint) and lots of targetted washed and drybrushes using for instance some apothecary white contrast paint etc.

I guess necron warriors just aren't my jam. You do sell the metal effect fairly well, though.

Here's the same post as in the challenge thread with my glottkin rendition for the sake of finding it quicker on forums;

Gore palette Glottkin.

Hey guys, here's another treat for those who care, a detail post (supermacro camera I normally only use for insect photography due to it running on batteries instead of a powerbank) the necron has had many a layer, starting with psychotic effect paint (greenstuffworld) as a baselayer, then several shades of drybrushing, topping with silvers and some freehanded turquoise and blues, the brighter hues were made by mixing the psychotic paint with some white to make that eerie ice-yellowish. Some details are painted gold with technical tesseract glow. The basing was made with little cut bits of sprue and manually painted and drybrushed somewhat in the same fashion as the necron however in a more blueish tone, nothing of the shading comes from lighting, it's all painted on as you can see in the rota.

Spoiler:

The Glottkin took me three months while also having to deal with a lot of extra work (august in particular is filled to the brim with work for me every year) so I wasn't sure if I could finish it but managed to complete it 3 days before the deadline (with 2 days to paint the necron left)
I personally really like making the bigger bulbs have eyes. The moldy old cloth and how well I managed to paint the big bro's eye (it gives him such a glare) There was an immense amount of different hues drybrushed past eachother to make his skin both fleshy and corpselike, like dried leather with paleness and molds, this is also where some bits have the blueish to beige transition. The nails were made to look like cartilage, hued orangy-pinkish as if pulled from a jaw's marrow. So I kept the same hue in different shades to some detailwork like the brazier, which emitts an unnatural fire rather than a classical one or a palet that would contrast the palet too much. The flesh of the two lesser brothers are pale like my other Nurgle mortals, about three shade tones down from white and sponge peppered a bit here and there to make it look as dry as possible, like what you'd expect to be the near paper ashy skin of an actual dry pale from a desert tomb.

Also particularly proud of the 2nd bro's scythe, which I therefor included making a snapshot of.

Electrified Necron rotational: https://sendvid.com/os43ra7h
(despite all the work being awarded minimum votes)
Gore style Glottkin rotational: https://sendvid.com/mfm2afrh
(despite three months of heavy detail work and a completely custom basing being awarded minimum votes)
(and yes I do feel insulted yes, and no I don't care about winning no and yes I think the votes given to the winners of those threads are deserved yes)
