I heard through the grape vine that there will be sweeping changes to the way adepticon 2011 will be run.

WARNING: Take this with a grain of salt. I have no hard proof of this and I cant say who this came from just a friend of a friend.

Apparently the adepticon counsel is thinking about removing the gladiator from adepticon. In its place they want to have a 2 round preliminary tournament to qualify for the championships on sunday. What this means is in order to play on the championships on sunday you have to score X amount of points on Friday or come within X place.

I just wanted to get some discussion going about this and see what peoples thoughts on these changes are.

My personal thoughts on this is that it is a terrible idea. Why take out the gladiator? Isnt this typically an event that is a big draw at Adepticon? If there is a big logistaical problem with running the sunday championships keep the number of players at a specific attendence. If its billed as a 100 perosn tourney then keep it at 100 people, don't add in an extra 150 on top of that.

i'd change the wording of the poll as you basically are asking two separate questions instead of one...

1) should they take out the gladiator?

2) should they have a prequalifier for the championship?


i have two different answers and no response on your poll adequately covers both as they are different.

Didn't vote, on the fence about this. Can't they have both and just pack in that much more gaming goodness?

Maybe they are sick of all the moaning about how the FW stuff imbalances and can buy a placing?

I don't participate in Gladiator, but it is one of the events I look forward to, so I can see the great models.

If they take it out, I think it hurts the whole of Adepticon. Its been a staple feature.

Adepticon evaluates all events on a yearly basis. We discuss all sorts of format options and take a look at what worked, what didn't, what we can do better, and what might need to be tweaked.

The 40K events are some of the most successful 40K format events in the world. So while we might consider some changes, I wouldn't expect "sweeping." Gladiator format will certainly exist.
