Can a Hive Tyrant join a unit of hive guard after the game has started (rather than on deployment)?

No comments on leaving then please, i do realise thats against the rules.

Yes. It may join as if it were an independent character- either at deployment, in declaration of reserves, or during the game by moving into unit coherency.

But isn't the Tyrant a monstrous creature? I thought only IC's can join other units.

That's not entirely true. Hive tyrants are capable of being the only (as far as I can remember) MC that has a squad. Also, lots of MCs are ICs. For example, both C'tan, and most of the named Greater Daemons.

Tyrants cannot Join Hive Guard, as Tyrants are not ICs.

They can join TYRANT Guard however, as they have a special rule allowing them to.

Oops. I play Necron and CSM mostly. Sorry for the foul up. I did check my Necron 'dex (which I have on hand) and c'tan are in fact ICs.

Yes, as he's not an IC, he can't go leaving/joining units. When you put him with hive guard, it's not like 2 different units combined, it's just adding models to the same unit, like filling up a space marine unit to 10 men.

This is Daemonic Cheese:

3000 Pts
2500 Pts
1000 Pts (And growing)

I'd put a quote here, but XKCD would have a better one.

Actually he CAN join the unit as an IC does, as he is given explicit permission to.

Yes we've been through that:
1. I typed in the wrong unit.
2. I'm too lazy to change it
