I was thinking of making a black legion army but i the colour schemes too simple so would it be good to make up my own chapter and use the black legion rules?

I would be inclined to say yes, but I'm no expert on the chaos codex so dont take my word as law...

in the current chaos codex there are no legion rules, also if you look you'll see a rather funky alternative black legion colour scheme.

So paint them as you like, call them black legion call them the 'knights that go nee', the rules in the chaos codex don't discrimiate

Currently there are no rules specifically for the black legion in the chaos codex, similar to how the space narine codex is versitile in that you can do what ever you want with it. So pretty much go ahead, you'll just be playing chaos marines!

so can you make your own chapter but when you use them have their rules set as Black Legion?

There's nothing in the fluff that says CSM won't come together as a warband under a strong leader fighting for Chaos Undivided!

Go for it! Black legion is awesome. I've been playing them since I started playing, and I love them.


The paint scheme is really easy, you can paint a tank in about half an hour Other than that, if you decide to mix legions with them, it makes perfect sense. I have a single unit of CSM that's Word Bearers, which is one of abaddon's black crusades, IIRC.

But yeah, go for it!

its not necessarily that everyone uses the black legion's rules, its just that CSM went from being distinct legions with fifferent options and abilities, to a generalized 'vanilla' CSM ideal. Basically meaning you can create a warband of whatever name and color you choose and use the same rules as everyone else, many of us devoted to the dark gods eagerly await the 'Legion Book' that will allow us to once again live up to our respective names, but sadly for now we all have to suffice for just being vanilla space pirates.
