So I am playing a friendly game against my brother tomorrow evening at 1000 points. I have never used the orks yet but this is my 2nd time constructing a list for them. My brother plays very mech-heavy Ultras and he also plays some brutally effective Chaos Daemons. On a lighter note, he also is starting CSM night lords so the potential armies are real random. I just thought I would throw together a semi-competitive list and see how it faired, but wanted some insight first. SO any pointers and such would be really helpful. I am a veteran to 40k but whenever starting out with a new army its kind of nerve racking where to begin.

headquarters:
warboss, pk = 85 (with nobz)
big mek, kff, pk = 110 (with large boyz unit)

troop:
nobz (6), 1 painboy, 1 w/pk, 1 w/pk & ammo runt, 1 w/pk & bosspole, 1 w/big choppa, 1 basic nob, battlewagon, rpj, deffrolla, big shoota, stikkbomb chukka = 363
boyz (19), nob, pk, bosspole = 154 (in battlewagon)
boyz (12), nob, pk, bosspole, trukk, rpj, stikkbomb chukka = 157

heavy support:
battlewagon, rpj, deffrolla, big shoota, stikkbomb chukka = 125

24.24 pts per model

I know the warboss looks a little light but I wanted alot of boyz for the game. I figured I could more than likely first turn assault and hammer any major units with the pk's from the nobz. the idea is to shield the trukk with the battlewagons and if need be, use the trukk boyz as a counter charge unit. Any c&c is greatly appreciated.

Stikkbomb chuckas are garbage, drop them.

Your warboss needs cybork body and an attack squig.

I'm nervous about lack of anti-tank. Relying soley on Deff Rollas is a little risky.

Looks good otherwise.

When first building the list, I wasn't too sure how to kit out my warboss because it seemed like the more boyz you can throw at a problem the better. I've had boyz choke on my eldar guns so often that I guess I never really paid too much attention to what was really being fielded against me. Also, I'm guessing that with the terrible initiative score and the extensive use of pk's in the list any sort of stikkbomb is useless. Thanks for the heads up. Any other thoughts???

I wanted to field a unit of burnas or kommandos but with this low of points it doesn't seem feasible with running 3 units of troops. I also own about 12 ork bikers. Would they be better as a troops choice at this points level instead of fielding a unit of boyz in a battlewagon? I know I would have to drop the regular boss for wazdakka if I wanted to make the bikerz troops but is it really worth it?

Anyway, heres the next progression in my list.

headquarters:
warboss, pk, cybork body, attack squig = 110 (with nobz)
big mek, kff, pk = 110 (with large boyz unit)

troop:
nobz (6), 1 painboy, 1 w/pk, 1 w/pk & ammo runt, 1 w/pk & bosspole, 1 w/big choppa, 1 basic nob, battlewagon, rpj, deffrolla, big shoota = 358
boyz (19), nob, pk, bosspole = 154 (in battlewagon)
boyz (12), nob, pk, bosspole, trukk, rpj = 152

heavy support:
battlewagon, rpj, deffrolla, big shoota = 120

I would only take 2 PK in the Nob mob and use the points to get boarding planks on all your vehicles for more anti-tank.

Your trukk needs a ram too.

Easy enough of a fix. So my finalized list is as follows.

headquarters:
warboss, pk, cybork body, attack squig = 110 (with nobz)
big mek, kff, pk = 110 (with large boyz unit)

troop:
nobz (6), 1 painboy, 1 w/pk, 1 w/pk & ammo runt, 1 w/big choppa, 1 w/bosspole,1 basic nob, battlewagon, rpj, deffrolla, plank, big shoota = 338
boyz (19), nob, pk, bosspole = 154 (in battlewagon)
boyz (12), nob, pk, bosspole, trukk, rpj, plank, ram = 162

heavy support:
battlewagon, rpj, deffrolla, big shoota, plank = 125

999pts
41 models
24.37 pts per model

Thanks Claypool for the help. If anyone else sees anything that is a glaring problem please let me know. If the extra unit of boyz isn't needed what should I throw in?

Do not get rid of any boyz in this list. You're running light as is.
