I'm just wondering if the rules for using a specific chapter from Index Astartes is still possible using 5thED rules. Of course there are some rules for some chapters that are obsolete now so they would have to be discarded but can it be done? I ask because I'd like to field a Salamanders army without being forced to talk Vulkan to do it. Any insight would be appreciated.

There are no rules governing what you do in a friendly game, so if you and an opponent agree it is fine.

In a tournament whatever the TO decides is the rule, so noone here can tel you for certain. 99% chance they will say no, however.

agreed. i haven't seen a tourny advertised since third edition that actually said they're allowing any index astartes armies. basically, bring two lists just to be on the safe side. one with vulkan and one from the index; that way, you'll be able to play regardless.
