Is there any info on this? The site on GW still has the 2009 rules up. I can't even find the list of retailers hosting.

The only reason I know for sure its 8th edition rules is this asterisk:

Nothing yet. I talked to some folks in Trade Sales today and they are working on getting the rules up on the website.

Figure on 3k, the usual no painting, WYSIWYG, and probably fairly simple scenarios from the 8th edition rulebook.

Thanks for the info as always mikhaila. That's basically what I am figuring Would like to see some info.

What about the list of sites? I think it was up before, but I can't find it now.

I really hope they say "no grand armies".. The amount of absurdity crossing from 2999 to 3000 is extreme. We'll see! I envision "leaf blowers" for WFB too if not

Funny, but I didn't see Leafblower doing much this year for 40K 'Ard Boyz, so why complain? I can't imagine any "absurdity" that is game-breaking, the percentile caps ensured that, so I fail to see any problems. If anything, I can see 3000 becoming a very common point value for games, as it opens up a lot of fun options.

The issue with the 3000 point mark is that it escalates the number of duplicates of Specials and Rares that an army is allowed to have. At 3000 points, and especially for 'Ard Boyz settings, that means you're going to be seeing 2x more artillery than you would at anything less than that.

Fitting in those 3 more cannons/mortars/stone-throwers or 6 more Bolt Throwers isn't terribly difficult to do at 3k.

Yea, but it doesn't necessarily make it worth it. The only armies is makes dumb are Empire and Dwarves and I still doubt the competitive list has a full complement of 15+ war machines. The best lists are not that far over what a regular army has... just maybe tuned towards the preferred war machine a little more.

Oh, I don't know. Empire Engineers took a giant leap forward. And at base 65pts, I can see Empire Players doing pretty well.

3 engineers with 9 war machines that misfire 1/36th of the time on average? Id say thats pretty good!.. Or 4 with 12, that basically negates all the downsides

As for 40k, IG did exceptionally well as predicted.. Top armies were by far IG/SW.. Leafblower is more of an idea rather than a specific army

Have you played against a gunline in 8th? If you play the building scenario or the break point scenario, the Empire gun lines don't fare that well. Dwarves are in a better position because they can have a few very hard to crack blocks.

In any rate, we'll need to see the scenarios before we know if grand army is a serious issue or not.

Fantasy Ard Boyz is August 28th and is 3000 points per person. Its the usual GW stuff, not painting require, bring a beat face list. The only stipulation my GW trade rep told me was that players have to own a copy of the rulebook to enter. Needless to say, we will be offering a discount on Fantasy rulebooks on the day!

What kind of restriction is that? Do I have to bring a receipt and copies of my bank account?

Do you have to *bring* the book instead of just own it? Granted this is strictly a store to store issue as some owners dont care and some go ballistic

What if I just borrow one or bring my copy + a much more USABLE lightweight photocopy?

Free tournament indeed

Yeaaaaaaa, they totally can't do that. I would e-mail GW about that sort of crap. If it isn't required by the 'Ard Boyz rules packet, I find it dubious that they can enforce it.

While I haven't heard that, and don't think they will do it, a couple of comments:

1. Who wants to play an opponent that doesn't know the rules? Especially with 8th being so new?

2. Most tournaments say "Bring your rulebook, codex, FAQ's, dice, and templates."

3. They can't enforce it, period. Local stores don't enforce a lot of things, WYSIWYG being a major one. Some of the crap that shows up at regionals and finals is amazing, and should never have been let on the table in the first round. Someone shows up without a book, probably no one is going to care.

4. With the box set around the corner, containing the rulebook version most tournament players will want, I do see it as a valid reason for having held off buying the big book in favor of the boxed set.

yeah I wouldn't imagine it being enforced in many places, just requoting what I was told when I signed my store up for Ard Boyz

It's 'Ard Boyz. If there wasn't an opportunity for game-breaking unit spam, and the resultant spree of players buying multiples of various boxes that they might only have one or two of, they'd practically have to add one.

Can somebody with an in at GW US prod them to move this along.

It is a bit distressing that less than three weeks away from a series of national tournaments that they still don't have the rules posted.

I have e-mailed customer service about it, but got dead silence after I pointed out that the rules there were the 2009 version.

I prod twice a week.

List of stores went up today. Unfortunately, the file was in need of a bit of editing, or was the wrong file, so very difficult to read. It was bisected and you only get half the page, so putting stores with states is next to impossible. I called and talked to them, and it's getting corrected.

I might actually try to attend 'Ard Boyz! I have a 3k fully painted army (not by me) so it seems a bit of a bummer that most of the armies won't be painted... but I'm itching to try some tournaments for fantasy in 8th edition!

Speaking of which, your sig needs updating, mikhaila prefereably with some awesome upcoming tourneys for fantasy which I will gladly drive up for!

Ok, page one still has 2009 rules, there are no scenarios, and the finals still don't say that their are 3 locations...

But the list of stores for prelims is up.

Progress!

Huh. Not one location actually in the SF Bay area - the closest is in Santa Cruz. I know why my LGS isn't hosting (change in event staff left us with someone much less knowledgeable about such things), but it's strange that the Leadership 2 folks didn't arrange something up at EndGame in Oakland.

Can someone post the direct link to the list of stores for the prelims? For some reason, I don't see it...

I assume you're hosting one, though, mikhaila?

I just decided I want to do this, and already have some ideas to make my list mean... well, as mean as I can, which probably isn't all that much really...

Yeah, I couldn't read it at all. It shows up on my screen with a default of 50.9% size. Once I figured out to resize it it's not bad.

RiTides - Yeah, I should be on the schedule to host the prelims, and then regionals, and finals. We'll have a ton of new scenery for 8th done by regionals, and more for finals.

Thanks mikhaila, keep up the good fight. Hopefully we will have some actual rules soon. Sheesh.
