Hi Dakka,

I am at a point where I really need to get a transport option worked out for my mini's. I am looking for something that is sturdy and can also double as semi permenant storage.

I was planning on just going the Battlefoam route, but never having actually seen one in person, I had a lot of questions I wanted to get nailed down first (including one admittedly pain in the butt one about if taking high contrast pics vs a scaled paper would do instead of tracing each model on some of my custom cuts). Over two weeks and one "anyone there?" email later, I've received no response. Given the higher price point, without being able to even get a reply via their email and web page, I don't see myself being able to make the jump to choosing them for my needs.

Over the next year or so, I am hoping to get all our mini's in foam, which currently means full armies of Tau (this is all I'm looking for right this moment), CSM, DH, DA, and Eldar. I'm looking for a system that I can purchase probably two large carry bags to house around 2-2.5k each (this is the other thing I really liked about BF, the 720 seemed perfect :( ) with the 'non active' armies able to be in sturdy foam out of their cases on shelves when not being transported.

So, with BF out the window, what's the next best bet for my needs?

Obviously I'm looking for something nicer and more sturdy egg crate foam. No one in my area really has much in the way of transport options that I've seen yet, hence my large ignorance on the subject. With no first hand experience, I'd really like to hear everyone's opinion before I committed myself to what will doubtlessly be a costly mission.

I'd appreciate any insights.

This has been said so many times ,by so many people on this forum.
SGT Diablo is Romeo's user Id here PM him.

He has been crazy busy with the acquisition of 40k radio.
I had the same issue with emails, I never got them returned or my SPAM filter was picking them up.

Once I got on the phone All issues were solved and they answered any questions I had. Also You don't need to trace Every fig, unless every fig is totally customized and won't fit in a normal slot .

Example I have a Pack max for my Deathwing, almost every terminator ( all 140 of them) Landraider, Dread, and thunderhawk is in customized or in an non standard pose. The only slots out of the 168 Termie slots that had to be cut non standard were for my Belial ( has extended sword arm and flowing cape) , and a GK termie with Force Halbrid. There was enough space to fit all the weird posed Assault termies and captains with raised swords. Also 84 termie sized models in one tray? Heck Yeah! I would post a link to my blog with picts but work blocks it.

I had a 1520 customized to hold a Reaver titan, 2 Banes, and 3 dread drop pods. I had to make traces for every model and the reaver I had to magnetize the weapon arms ( which in the long run helped out when I wanted to change the default weapon load out to all Tri laser blasters). On the 3 Dread drop pods I just had to make one trace and measure ho tall and wide they were, Romeo fit 3 of them in a 5inch tray with 2 other dread bases and a slot for all the weapons and arms for them ,so it could have been 3 Dread pods ( FW ones are huge compared to the gw ones) and 3 dreads. It took time but it was so worth it.

I had like 3 of the Division A.T. cases and basically 1 or 2 of all the other smaller A.T. cases, and there was nothing wrong with them , but the Battlefoam fits so much more , and are just that extra bit tougher, especially the PACK MAX ( extra Wood reinforced walls)

I just recently got some foam too and thought I would share my solution.

It was 1 tactical backpack and 2 gw cases. This was best for me as it was a bag I could use to carry a number of things like lots of books for role play or 2 cases which is enough for a 1500pt 40k army as long as you dont go crazy with vehicles. The standard foam is fine if you don't have alot of metal minis. But the good thing about this if I only need to carry one case for my fantasy army then I can crumple the bag down to 1 case size. This is really what made it appeal and I liked the pack 432 but it was too small for a 40k army and the pack 720 was too big to carry around my dwarf army who only need 4 inches of foam.

Also custom cut foam I can only see being useful for metal models that can move around alot. Standard sizes allows you to reuse the foam for other armies as well.

Finally with the GW case size being so standard every foammaker makes foam for it so you arent locked to one supplier. For
example I use KR foam as its quite cheap.

All up I am very happy with the solution.

The part that sticks out can be crumpled in when you only need 1 case.

I got one of the cases from the tools pack which was quite a bargin

This is KR 4 inch pluck and pull I hadnt put together my 2nd battle wagon yet. theres 4 deep pockets free, for future expansion or tall banner minis. I plan to put padding foam around the open areas of the truck and copters to minimise movement.

This is the standard GW foam its easy to cut and a good size for the orks, I also have a KR pack that can fit 40 minis in either 1 inch ir 1.5 inch. I plan to use the KR foam for my dwarfs.
