Subject: JAWS of the Wild Wolf and Targetting?

Hi,
I'm trying to get my head round this ability as an interesting situation arrived in game and we were not sure how it should have been handled by the rules, we ended up rolling for it. I also have some other questions that are related.
so the situation was Njal was stood on top of a grassy gnoll and he wanted to try to snipe an enemy unit with jaws. the trouble was there was a unit of my grey hunters and my opponents deathcompany locked in combat inbetween the target and Njal. the line would not pass through any freindly troop only a few of his.
so we were not sure if this was allowed as I know you can't target units that are locked in combat, but in this the unit was being targetting were not in combat just as a side effect a unit that was locked in combat would have been affected.
so how should this have been handled?
also as the spell does not say anything about targetting, it just says draw a line. So if a rune preist is in a squad that is targetting one unit can he draw his line through a different unit?
and does the spell effect freindly troops?
cheers for any help you can give on this.

Yes. The FAQ (as much as I dislike the way it ignores RAW) covers some things, but not this. Yes, the line can go through Friendly models and through close combats.

Nice one, cheers for that peeps.
i've just found the faq and that has answered my question somewhat. think it was worded badly in the first place and suprised that they didn't do a re write. as that question and answer part it is in doesn't lat the rules down as it were. still at least i can see what they are saying.
im gathering from the faq that i can't shoot the line through my own troops first, but does it mean that they are unharmed by it if the line hits them after hitting enemy models first?

Last week we had a question about Jaws of the White Wolf, and now we have one about Jaws of the Wild Wolf. Just one question, how long does a gnoll have to be dead before it starts becoming grassy?

Playing Space Marine demo while GF was scrapbooking:
Me: I can turn it down, if the screams of dying orks are annoying you.
Her: That's ok, I love hearing the screams of dying orks.
My armies (W-D-L):
2,000 (about 1,200 painted and now I'm feeling the call of Russ) 3-4-3
2,000 (about 1,000 painted, WiP) 0-1 |

No. Any models, friend or foe, have to take the test.
