Anyone read this book? I found it to be pretty good and accurate to the fluff (no multilasers). And even though it made the first third of the book go slow I kinda liked the depiction of eldar life and the way the aspect warrior's "mask" works.

Wrong forum, and there are other threads that concern it.
However, yes it is actually a decent depiction of life on Eldar Craftworlds. For once Eldar have not been buggered over a table by GW writers.

Yes, it was a fine read indeed, I liked the little bits about how the Eldar mind works. The next 2 books in the series follow the Ranger and the farseer introduced in this book.

Sorry I guess should have realized that this should have in the background section but I didn't see any threads on it in the first two pages. to post in thread beyond that might have resulted in thread necromancy **Gasp**

Anyway, there were really only two things that bothered me about the story.
Spoiler:
First: the duel between the two shrines that, had Kenaineth's shrine lost, would have shut down the shrine (why couldn't he just wait for another pupil to get back up to fighting strength like he did at the beginning of the book?).
Second; the convenient retiring of Kenaineth towards the end. Since when do eldar retire from old age? I thought they either died or became shiny trees.

That's only for Farseers.

I enjoyed it although it was slow at times I felt that it needed to be to accuretely do what needed to be done.

I will read the other two.

800 brethren and 2,000 other personnel were expected to reach Crows World within no more than 12 hours. They never arrived.

Losing the duel would mean that Kenaineth's shrine would no longer be able to function as a squad. This does not mean that the shrine would have disbanded, but it does mean that they would not be able to function in battle. The Exarch would remain, but it is likely that the pupils would split up. The shrine would become much like the one Kenaineth discovers later.

Eldar most definitely age like other creatures. It wasn't the Exarch's suit that was aging, but the Eldar inside it. Farseers are a different story, due to their sorcery.

Yeah it was awesome. Who said he retired... only farseers go crystal.

I really loved the Exarch fluff, damn near inspired me to buy a box of scorps... but then I didn't.

Son can you play me a memory? I'm not really sure how it goes...

Very good book. Helped me understand a fair bit of eldar fluff. I really like it when the xenos get books, there's enough human fluff allready out there for me.

I too also wanted some scorpions after reading it.

Yes I realize all of that. It just seemed a little odd that
Spoiler:
he chose that moment to be too old. Korlandril knew him for maybe 2 years and never was it mentioned that he looked or acted like he was getting on in years but one day he says well, I'm too old, you're in charge.

On another note I thought it was kinda cool that he
Spoiler:
didn't use a well known regiment or chapter for the invading imperials. the galaxy is a big place after all.

One thing I'm curious about is whether or not Ahra is also functionally immortal like Karandras and why a phoenix lord's suit and an exarch's suit work differently. i.e. when
Spoiler:
korlandril joined with morlaniath he became 1/7th of morlaniath. when morlaniath joined with karandras, he effectively ceased to exist.

He didn't know him for all too long, but I'm pretty damn sure it was a bit more than two years. How long is a 'cycle' anyway?

Spoiler:
Yes! I was ecstatic when Thorpe demonstrated that he was not a wannabe space marine faction fan. Space Marines are heroes all, you don't have to be an Ultramarine or *shudder* a Blood Raven to be a good Space Marine. If I had to pick I would have guessed that they were possibly the Sons of Orar. I also thought he demonstrated their prowess effectively, it wasn't a "Hah lol Noobs die" situation from the Eldar POV, but he didn't make the Space Marines out to be invincible either. They are only mortal. I also laughed when I realised that Karandras getting curb stomped by a Dreadnought is pretty accurate in game terms.

Spoiler:
Morlaniath was still the dominant spirit in the Exarch suit (which struck me as a little odd TBH), but Karandras' soul/suit was so epansive, so immense (being worn by Thousands if not millions of Eldar over the millenia) that Morlaniath was effectively a speck in Karandras' mountain of experience.

I came to the conclusion that a 'cycle' was a day and a 'pass' was a year and I seem to remember that was the term used for his time in kenainath's shrine either after his first battle or second though I can't remember which. He was conspicuously vague when it came to the passage of time (probably so he would have plenty of freedom for the next two books).

Spoiler:
Well to be fair, said dreadnought would have to hit with all of his attacks and if he missed Karandras would send 7 (assuming he was charging) WS7 S8 attacks his way

Spoiler:
I could go with that except that it said Morlaniath 'found peace' Was that only because he was in a never-ending state of war like he wanted or was it just Gav's attempt at a (grimdark) happy ending

Also, I was a little disapointed that
Spoiler:
we never got to see the avatar in action. He put a lot of time into describing his awakening but we never saw him actually fight. Heck he could have had him avenge Karandras' "death".

Eh, true that.

True, against front armour 12. Achievable. Who charged again?

Spoiler:
It didn't seem to be some much that he 'found peace'. That's a release that only being absorbed into the Avatar provides. Think of it more as Karandras being the exarch of exarch suits. It's the easiest way to grasp it.

To be honest I appreciated that.
Spoiler:
The thing was so much bigger than just one Phoneix lord and his Striking Scorpion buddies, he's brushed over in other areas. Having him leap to the defense of Karandras would have been a bit cheesy in my opinion. He had bigger and bloodier things to do.

Next two books? Do you mean two more eldar books or just two more books by Gav?

About that Kenainath thing, don't Eldar age like classic elves, where they live for a long time, but don't visibly age until right at the end?

It was an awesome book that inpired me to take a look at my squad of scorps and add more detail to their armor and such.

I loved the development of the character moving in paths and i understood his feesthering uncontrolable anger after being rejected by his lady....sad face.

Ohh one cool thing i noticed in the book was that the book mentioned a new aspect shrine which was called the crystal dragons i wondering what role they play

Crystal Dragons seem to be like the Warp Spiders and Shining Spears, more recent. Maybe in the next codex..? There's also that "Eagle Pilot" aspect that's never been elaborated on...
One thing I've noticed is that the new aspects like the Warp Spiders and Shining Spears are all more technological than the 6 original ones, what with the Warp Spider being able to teleport all over the place and Shining Spears riding jetbikes. So I'm actually REALLY hoping the Crystal Dragons finally fulfil my dream of a wraith-bone manipulating aspect.
