Ok I know that Kroot can become any colour due to their DNA being changed with what they eat.

My question to fellow posters is :

What kind of colours do people normally paint Krot skin?? Do they go from something similar to the plate armour or do they go to the opposite end of the colour wheel??

I was thinking of basecoating my Kroot skins with Macharius Solar Orange to contrash with the blue and make the Kroot seem bright.

Just looking for other opinions before I commit to starting my Tau army.

Sicne Kroots prefer being in the woods I tend to paint them either browns or greens, I then use their sash/belt thing to tie them into the army.

I agree with painting them in earthly tones. I think its important to maintain an organic/biological feel to the models. If you wanted to do orange, I personally would make it a dark deep orange, not an atomic blinding orange. Things might change in the body when you eat them, certain pigments are retained even in our own bodies, but imagining a creature that eats a tangerine and then turns the color of the fruit is just illogical to me. But then again, thats all personal opinion.

Ok so with those comments in mind i went back onto the GW website and looked through the foundation paints again.

Gretchin Green & Khemri Brown both look like colours i could use and would have a wash for each of them, Thraka Green fro the Gretchin and Devlan mud for the Khemri. At the moment im slightly siding with the Green but not overly sure of it.

I've got a couple of Kroot trackers in my gallery, earth tones all the way, easy to paint too, foundation paints and washes make the job a joy!...well maybe not a joy....but a lot easier! :-)

If only the Battleforce didnt come with the Kroot it would make this easier lol.

Maybe ill hold off on painting Kroot until the bulk of my Tau army is painted, nothin wrong with getting suggestions early tho

I wouldn't limit my palette to just greens and brows. Remember that Kroot are aliens, and who knows what color forests are across their section of the galaxy (ie. it can be whatever you want ). If you want to stick to the fluff then it might be good to try for some type of camo pattern in whatever color you decide since they have rules for blending into jungles and forests.

Just remember to try and fit the Kroot into the overall look and feel for your army so that it all looks like a cohesive force. If you do decide to go with the greens and browns for the skin it is always a good idea to use the other parts of the model to tie in the colors to the rest of your force, as others before me have suggested.

I don't take stock in fancy coloured Kroot. I find, even if they're supposed to be aliens they really wouldn't have mad skin colours. But that's just my interpretation. I paint mine in muted browns.

Its exactly what effect i wanted my Kroot.

The only difference is the Snakebite Leather Vests will be painted in Necron Abyss to tie it in with the rest of my army.
