Subject: Dwarf Slayers for fun

IM playing a game on firday agenst 2 of my friends ( a 3 way game) there both new to warhammer. they each bought a blood Island and traded the army there not using to each other. One has played 2 games agenst me and the other is completly new.
So I was thinking for fun Id bring a deamon slayer as my lord and give him:
Master rune of Spite
2x rune of fury
mabye add a rune of brotherhood to make him pop up with my rangers to get a little closer. It says it cant be placed on a character with shieldbearers or oath stone. I assume he would deploy with them BUT would not be joined, so he could be singled out. Thats if im reading it right. I only have one slayer model from the skull pass set so far, my transmission blew in my car so I dont have the cash to buy anymore right now ( but 10 are on my list )
any info on how to get a good set up on a lone deamon slayer for a for-fun game please let me know. Or if im reading the rules wrong

Slayer Heroes & Lords can only spend their points on runic Weapons...I don't think this will work.

MegaDombro is correct, runic talismans are prohibited for slayers.
About the only way to get him a ward is to have him stand near a banner with the MR of Grungni.

That's pretty hitty. I'm looking to get another campaign going so I can have an excuse to bring things like the demonslayer. I personally like the idea of making him a super monster killer- rune of smiting, might, and fire. If you want to rely on his slayer skill instead, you can swap might for fury or snorri spanglehelm.

the 2 armies in this game are going to be skaven and high elves from the blood island kit. Im also bringing a cannon and organ gun, so the slayer is going to mess things up for a turn or two on some skaven clan rats....if he can get close enough hes got 4 units of 20.
Once I get the car fixed I want to build a unit of at least 10 slayers. I realized I have 3000 points of dwarfs and only 1 slayer model lol.

On a slightly related topic, are slayers even useful for anything. I am new to dwarves (and WHFB in general), I like the look of the slayer models, especially the idea of them, but they look flat out worse then other dwarf units, even basic warriors. I only have 1 game under my belt so maybe I am missing something with them, but it seems like they are warriors (already meh units) that trade their trademark thick armor for a better chance of hurting bigger stuff, all the while costing more and taking a special slot.

They are a suicide unit basically. Make them flankers for your anvil warriors

I was just talking about this with a friend at work ( the guy who plays HE ) his said something like.. " so you got a hard hitting Lord that only moves 3" , cannot join units, has no armour and costs a ton. Ill just send waves of arrows at him, killing him in 1 turn of fire"
so now Im starting to agree with MegaDombro.
Ultra hard hitting unit that cant take a hit. unless you have a ton of them.

Yeah, the Daemon slayer just isn't very good value. There are some very specific matchups that you can make him excel at, but outside of those, not so much. Also consider that with M3 it's difficult to get those favorable matchups and his value drops even more. I intend to take one if I'm ever in a super fluffy mood, or run another narrative campaign.
He can still get a 4+ look out sir by standing near other units, and a 5+ ward if the MR of Grungni is nearby.
The dragonslayer, on the other hand, is one of my preferred buys. 50 points for another guy roaming around, causing trouble? Yes please.

If you really want a killing machine or if your opponents are running the HPA or anything with regen I'd recommend the Dragon Slayer with RoSmiting and Fire. Comes in at 125 and still has the Slayer rule which lets him keep his str=tough and you only lose 1 attack. Pack him in behind a unit with grungni and he should survive long enough to smash a flank or two. Also think about keeping a baseline Drag Slayer in the back next to your warmachines for protection.

The other day the I thought of something.. Take a unit of how many slayers you want, added with a deamon/dragon slayer with what ever runes you like, I prefer a deamon slayer with great weapon, MR of kragg and 2 runes of fury. In the unit of slayers only upgrade 1 into a musicain. You can even leave out the Deamon/dragon slayer to save some points.
On the turn you wish to charge use the free-reform to change your ranks from 5,10 whatever to ranks of 2 ( this will confuse anyone watching) with the misucian and dragon/deamon slayer in front rank. this wont give you very many attacks but you still get what ever the deamon/dragon slayer is packing. This forces your opponent to use only 2 models wide of attacks, most likely 4 to 6 +1 if there is a unit champion. Slayers being unbreakable you wont panic and run so if you have the numbers you can tie up a unit for several turns with little damage to you, hopefully.
In theory the only way this will fail is if they get flanked by something either big/lots of numbers or missile heavy. If you use them to flank or have a unit on the guard this should be a very bazar trick. Once I get slayers I plan on using this agenst a friend who has plenty of horded skaven and another with one big unit of HE silverhelms. They already have stated that with the lack of armour they dont see slayers as a threat. If this turns out to be a good plan im going to call this the slayer spear maneuver. If not Ill call it a interesting fail.
