So what are the cool Dwarf builds for 8th? I am new to Dwarfs, and only have the contents of the Skull Pass set. Are there any "must have" units or combinations that every Dwarf General should never leave home without?

Thank you for any and all suggestions. I need a short education.

I've been playing Warhammer 40,000 since 1988, and am just coming back from a bit of a 10-year hiatus. And please excuse any wild accusations, hallucinations, or outright factual errors, as I am recovering from a serious head injury. And Warhammer 40,000 is part of my therapy. OH YEAH!

In 1.5k and above, I recommend at least one rune priest. Never know when he could come in handy. Get him Master Rune of Balance.

Since dwarves are more expensive point wise than others, blocks of 20-25 I think are sufficient but if you want higher (for steadfast etc) then nothings stopping you

Master rune of balance and a dispell seems to be enough without overspending.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

It really depends on your style and what you want your army to do.

A common build is:

Lord on shield bearers
-Master Rune of Spite
-Rune of preservation
-Rune of resistance
-Rune of Stone
-Regular Greatweapon

Thane BSB
-Master Rune of Gromil
-Rune of resistance

Runesmith
-Master Rune of Balance
-Rune of Spellbreaking

Another build is:

Runelord
-Anvil of Doom
-Master Rune of Balance
-Rune of Spell Breaking
-Rune of Resistance

Thane BSB
-Master Rune of Gromil
-Rune of Resistance

The Auto includes? at LEAST two Cannons one with RoBurning & Forging and one with just Forging. A grudge thrower with RoAccurace, Burning, and Penetrating with an engineer.

The best option for foot soldiers is meeting your minimum required for troops then load up on Hammerers as they are stubborn. I tend towards 20 warrior rangers with greatweapons and handaxes as I like the stand and shoot option. As well as a 10 man unit of thunderers w/shields (some prefer quarrelers as they can take GW as well).

Biggest point to remember, if a weapon/warmachine/whatever has a rune on it (doesn't matter what) then it's attacks count as magical attacks. Therefore a cannon with burning is the best thing in the world to fire at the HPA. The grudgethrower is best used on things like Grave Guard and big blocks of infantry.

I'd say head on over to Bugman's Brewery for some dwarf specific tactica and advice. The best thing to do is read over other peoples batreps and see what worked and where.

Good Luck!

OK, so here's my thing. I have the Dwarf minis from Skull Pass, an old unit of 17 Dwarfs with shield and hand weapon (circa 3rd edition), and a metal Dwarf Thane/Lord. If I add a box each of Warriors, Thunderers, and Miners, and add a Runepriest, I am aready clocking in at over 1500 points. And that's before adding Runes or anything.

is that enough feet on the ground?

It's a good solid start. You're going to need more artillery if you're going competative. Also if you're bringing the miners I'd recommend the anvil of doom so that they can charge the turn they arrive.
