Ok so last weekend I played in my FLGS's first 8th edition tournament and finished in 6th using my Dark Elves. WoC won first and Brettonians got 2nd place.

Out of the field of 14 there were 4 WoC, 2 Lizards, 1 Dwarf and 1 Brettonian army (the armies I had issues with).


As you can see my store is flooded with High Armor armies. Most of my units had Armor Piercing due to Repeater Xbows and Banner of Murder, I also had a lvl 2 lore of metal sorceress. Is there anything I'm missing to deal with armor? I dont want to start a 3rd army and don't want use my WoC. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wow a Brett getting 2nd! Good for him , make sure to congratulate him for me! On the other hand I think you should take another lvl 2 Metal Sorc and "have a nice day" as they say!

I have a lvl 4 so another lvl 2 seems rather redundant to me.

Hydras tend to munch on anything well. Locking in executioners with AP banner and a hydra on an armored unit will feel pain

add a lvl 2 shadow sorcerer with ToF?

It has some awesome hex spells in their and if you get okamms razor then even better. Some corsairs with 3 attacks at S9 each? Yes please.

Okhams Mind Razor on a horde unit of corsairs is a horrible thing to face, I've had the misfortune of facing it twice now. :(

Other then a dispell, you thought of any good counters to it?

There isn't a whole lot which would hold up in combat against that unless they are striking first with plenty of attacks themselves, something with Timewarp on them for instance. Even then you are depending on the Corsair unit not being too big so you can reduce the attacks coming back at you.

More realistically you delay them/feed them a cheap unit and drop templates on them until they die (and Mind Razor wears off).

All I could do was try and magic them to death with dwellers below and x6 salamanders breathing on them.

Worked in 1 game and failed miserably in the next.

I was unlucky in that the 3 times he cast it in game 2 I failed dispel by 1, all 3 times. :(

Another option is to use the cauldron to grant killing blow to a unit with a high number of attacks (spearmen, corsairs, maybe even blackguard).

I'll have to give the corsairs a try today. I have 15 of them that haven't made in on the table in 8th so far.

15? I would hold off a bit more till you at least have 24 (6 x 4) The thing is corsairs do not have good enough staying power in low nubers - Unless you are just using them to shoot and harass in which case you should take shades instead.

I agree, 15 is too low for a T3 4/5+ armor save unit. 20 minimum, I ran a unit of 20 at 1000 points in a couple games a few days ago, and they did fairly well. As stated, your best bet is just to stack the odds in your favor through magic. Okkam's is great, but don't underestimate the -D3 T or -D3 S spells also. And in dark magic, WS/BS 1 is great, I used it on a black coach that was ethereal and made sure it wouldn't hur my corsairs, who ended up tarpitting it and a unit of 20 skeletons for 4 turns.

I got in one game against WoC and it worked alright, I won by roughly 1000 VP (cant be more specific). Unfortunately for me I was playing a 14 year old who was very inexperienced - all of the experienced WoC players were at Ard Boyz.

I just had to comment.

Youre playing Dark Elves. Dark Elves can spam magic due to Power of Darkness. Almost every DE army I have seen in 8th has had a Lvl 4 and at least 2 Lvl 2's, if not 3. Have your Lvl 4 pick your main lore of choice, and then have 2 lvl 2's with lore of metal. That way if you go against high armor just magic them to death (or reduce their armor ala' Plague of Rust) using your full power pool + 3 Power of Darkness spells.

If you go against a non-heavy armoured army they are still not useless, providing you again with extra power dice and also using spells such as Glittering Robe, to get your warriors a tasty 3+ armor save, and Enchanted blades, to get a nice bonus both in shooting and close combat (+1 to hit and AP!)
