Hi all,

Don't post much over here, but I thought I'd make a little side blog of painting here to go along with my main blog that I post pictures on. Anyways, I've been working on Red Scorpions and here's what I have so far. Not too much, but you can get an idea of my style. I'm a very slow painter. If you want more info feel free to respond or, even better, post on my main blog as I'll probably see that first.

My main blog is Spilt Painter. http://spilt-painter.blogspot.com/

The terminators weren't really converted. I just spent a LONG time scraping off Blood Angel's icons with a hobby knife and a file. I left some of the blood drops though as I figured blood would be a good bit of iconography on a chapter that is so obsessed with genetic purity.

1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress

For me, the reason I love them is the more militaristic feel to the color scheme when compared to most of GW's official chapters. I think the core chapters, (blood angels, dark angels, smurfs...er...ultramarines,) all have fairly cartoony paint schemes. I think the Red Scorpions are a little more serious looking. Also, I know most people don't buy them, but I've got Forge World upgrade packs for every model in the army except the scouts I think. I just LOVE the Mk. IV helmets.

Although I am a big fan of the RS, I think its becuase of that FW makes them. Another example is Death Korps and Elysians. If FW never made them I doubt they'd be just as popular as they are now.

Nicely done! They are well filled out now in the Badab war book in regards to their background. Makes me want to stop my Templars and start a Badab chaper.

The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against the inevitable. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the darkness comes for you.

I agree with you on the helmets they are just cool looking. I think simply messing around with how the helms look on a SM is the easiest way to make your chapter stand out.

Nice paint jobs, but I honestly thought Red Scorpions would be red

The grey is really simple, it just requires a bit of brush control to make it work. If you can't keep the lines tight the model will look goofy. It's just a Foundation adeptus battle grey base cost, then I black line the joints with PP thamar black, and finally I hit the edges with Vallejo London grey. If I'm doing a character I might go up one more level on the edge highlights with GW fortress grey just at the corners.
