Long story short, i have been doing my first leman russ and decided to full mag it, sponsons were cool, 3mm mags. but for the main gun i started to drill for 6mm mags, this has not worked out to good.
basically i wanna fill the concave i made with the 6mm drill bit so i can replace it with a 3mm.
What would you guys advise to fil the concave? sprue shavings and liquid poly mix filler? maybe a bung fill (which i already started making from the search light on the sprue)? wood and super glue (probs to brittle)..

any advice from the more experienced would be awesome..

greenstuff maybe? not quite sure i understand, what were you drilling that was wider than 6mm?

have sometimes considered mixing poly cement with old sprues to use as a filler, worth experimenting with i suppose

I've used polystyrene filings mixed with liquid poly for a filler before (but I'm going to do it OUTSIDE next time - stuff packs a punch) but I prefer Squadron's Green putty as a filler these days.

GS will also do (and give a fairly good grab for anything it's around - like a magnet - too).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I'll second chromedog's recommendation of Squadron Green. It's also excellent for filling on the joins if any aren't snugly fitting as it can be sanded afterward (wear a dust mask though, highly toxic). I've used it a fair bit on my IG tanks and it's excellent.

Can I suggest skipping forward 10 years to the age where you don't really care about what people say on the internet. Studies show that it decreases your anger about life in general by 37%. - Flashman

Cool, thanks. cant believe green stuff and similar never even came to mind, i dont have to wait for a delivery if i try GS totally forgot i can get it from gamesworkshop. probably gonna be an idea for me to invest in some squadron green also for the future

o yeah and i wasnt exactly drilling bigger than 6mm bagley, what happened is i got 2 types of 3mm mags, some 6mm and 12mm mags also. i used 3mm for everything but when it came to the main gun i thought i would try a 6mm for a bit more grab until i got so far in and realized it was gonna be to big, now i need to bodge the 6mm hole to get a nice snug 3mm hole instead, live and learn i guess (i definatley learned from this 1 hehehe)

which leman russ kit is it? battle tank or demolisher & variants? dont the leman russ gun options virtually friction fit? i used mags on my demolisher so i can swap to all the variants and no drilling neccessary straight from the box, i green stuffed the areas that meet up to get them smoother and then drilled the green stuff for 2mm mags. works a treat. if its that one your doing, i can post some pics if it would help

yeah the front mount and sponsons would probably be ok without mag, very true, just a bit of extra security i guess but the main gun would just drop (its demolisher, wanted the gattling as i would be fighting infantry alot of the time)

you can also make a sleeve using a 6mm piece of tubing, into which, you place your 3mm magnets. I did that when I magnetized my baneblade maingun. I was lucky enough to find a piece of styrene pipe that fit snugly inside the barrel, which then provided nice support for the magnet.
