<Warning- the below has some spoilers for an incoming batrep>

So, I think I know the answer here, but thought I'd check:

Just finished a game against Skaven. The general was a Grey Seer, riding a screaming bell. Over the course of the game I dropped the Grey Seer, but not the bell.

Based on this from the FAQ:

Q: If I kill a character but not their mount, do I score victory points
for just the character, the character and their mount, or must I kill
the mount too in order to score any victory points? (p143)
A: You must kill the character and his mount to score any
victory points.

Is it fair to say that the bell works just like a mount here? Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Not only didn't collect the 340 odd point for the grey seer, but missed the +100 for the general as well? Seems brutal, but them's the breaks in 8th I guess.

Suppose this wasn't much of a YMDC, but I'll leave it, as it might be something others are unfamiliar with...

The bell is treated as a unique type of model... the rule book uses it as an example... yes the grey seer rides it but if you kill the bell the seer hops off... and if you kill the seer the bell rings on. So I would guess ya get the points for what ya wack?? Everything I have ever read, more or less treats them seperately in every way even though you buy them together, oops I looked it up in the book they used the furnace but same thing.

That was my hope, but as you can see above, the FAQ says mounts and riders must be destroyed to get points for either. I checked the Skaven book and it describes the bell as a special kind of mount. So... I think the FAQ applies.

Yep, its a mount so you need to kill both.

+1
The this rule is made clear in the FAQ that entry that the OP posted, this originally applies for character ridden monsters but seeing as the bell/furnace is a mount as per it's own unique rules you must kill both to get any points.

However, I'd think you get the 100vp bonus for killing the general, as he is most definitely dead.

While i'd agree "yes the general's dead" but you need to kill both the general + mount to score the victory points. The rule does not indicate any bending that, so my gut, you'd need to kill that Bell to get the 100 points for the General.

I may be wrong, as I have no access to the GW website for FAQ at work, so will stow it in the phone for stuff to check back on.

I don't have the main rule book in front of me, but isn't the Screaming Bell a unit unto itself? It's a type "Un" in the main rule book. While it serves as a mount for Grey Seer, it can function without him (if he dies first) and him without it (if it gets destroyed). The fact that they are purchased together is immaterial.

The Grey Seer is worth x points and is the general (and thus worth an extra 100 if killed).

The Screaming Bell is worth y points and gives those points up should it be destroyed, even if the Grey Seer were to survive.

That's the way I'd see it at least, if only because the Main Rule Book lists the Screaming Bell as its own unit (as opposed to a War-Litter or Rat Ogre Bone Breaker which, IIRC, are not).

You can replace "Screaming bell" with "Dragon" or "Chariot" in your sentence, and the quoted elements remain equally true. But, per the FAQ, you don't get VPs until both the character AND his mount are dead.
