Simple question, if an eldar model with the wards (roll 3d6 dice and take the highest dice out) makes his psych check within a shadow of the warp nid model (roll 3d6 combined for psych check) how many dice do you roll and how many count for which.

Bear in mind there is some controversy with that reading, given that the Eldar FAQ relates to the 4th ed Nid codex, NOT the current one which has a significantly different mechanic for SitW than previously.

+1

The wording is entirely valid though as the names have not changed, and the actual effect of SitW is not referenced, only the result of the interaction with the runes.

"It is not the bullet with your name on it that should worry you, it's the one labeled "To whom it may concern. . ."

thats true nos...but it is still the current faq for eldar and still applies. but some will argue that it only applies to hive tyrants, and if were lucky gwar will jump in and say "it breaks the system and theres no way to deal with both"

Much like Casket in the 7th ed TK FAQ after the second BRB FAQ, the answer makes no sense given the current SitW rules.

It only applies where TOs havent thought about this, which is why I always ask (despite not currently playing Nids and never Eldar)

It seem simple enough for the seer to roll 4 dice and remove the highest. Both rules are respected and they dont interfere. Just cansel out is a big advantage for the eldar player as I see it.
Friendly games: discuss it with the opponent.
Flgs/Tournament: Faq rules usually apply
Hm, I will take this up with my friend that play nids next time my Oldies face him.

Except the rules don't allow you to roll 4 dice...

As lliadon correctly said, there is no way to resolve it and the game breaks.

If you want to use the FAQ (even though it is for the old codex), then it only applies to Hive Tyrants and other SitW critters break the game.

I am of the opinion that the game doesn't break.

Both rules call for the character to roll 3d6 to take the psychic test... so it's easy, you roll 3d6. The only additional stipulations are:
SitW - PotW on any double 6 or 1
RoW - use the lowest 2 d6 to see if you pass

So... you roll 3d6, lowest 2d6 to see if power works, but if any double 1 or 6 happens, you get a PotW

Except you havent followed SitW.

You are REQUIERD to TEST on 3D6. Taking the test is defined as adding up the dice and checking the result.

If you only add up 2 of 3 dice you have NOT taken the test on 3D6 and have NOT followed the requirements of SitW

This has been covered to death in other threads... make it easy on you and your opponent and just play it as the two cancel each other out lol.

Exactly, and if it makes you feel any better, with how gw has been screwing nids with the faq, adding allpoison armies etc, You can bet when they get to updating the faq entry, it will totally be in the eldars favor.
