Awhile back I took part in a reinactment of the Horus Heresy. We had a huge version of the Imperial Palace with 8 players each with a 2k army that would reasonibly fit into the history so Ork armies where out. But if someone had say Ultramarines and wanted to play we came up with some excuse for a small force of them to be there (completly unofficial of course) but we mostly had all of the major players from the battle.

This got me to thinking about all the other historic reinactments players may have done of great battles from the 40k timeline either on purpose, as part of a tournament or the opposing armies just happen to reflect those of a past engagment. for instance an Ultramarines 1st company force created via Apocalypse led by Calgar vs a Apocalypse Tyranid force led by the Swarmlord.

Or maybe a game of Grey Knights allied with Space Wolves led by logan vs an allied Daemons of Khorne/ World Eaters army. So if you've played a game like this or seen one feel free to post it, they don't have to be Apocalypse games and they don't have to contain Space Marines in any form.

I played a game against a dude's Witch Hunter army using alot of Chapel and Iconic holy buildings. As we started putting terrain we came to the conclusion we should play it like Sanctuary 101 with Necrons v Sisters. Game was very interesting and results were as history repeated but was damn close. I'd love to do a few Horus Heresy battles, full on Chaos v Loyalists.
