Hello, all you kind, kind souls. I would like to introduce myself- I am achatinoidea, and I have been brought here by one of you. I seek knowledge, and wisdom.

Mostly, I want to know if I should wargame. I don't yet, but from what I have seen, 40k and Warmachine are the most interesting, but I am kind of split between the two. I can't afford to play both, so I wanted to know which one is cheaper, has more players, has better rules (Warmachine, from what I've heard) better background (I love the 40k stuff I read), and which you guys like. Most of my friends who play do 40k, but I live in NYC, so finding somewhere to play Warmachine shouldn't be to hard.

So yeah, great to be here, hope to have fun!

I have played both games, both are fun and have their good qualities

40k

Established, a lot of players, a lot of armies, a lot of places to play.
Game Sizes can Range from small 500pt games that take 45mins to Massive 50,000pt games that take all day
I would generally say more expensive but, that will depend on you and your armies, Warmachine I would say is a close second

Warmachine

Smash mouth game play, everything is overpowered
Smaller to midsized games generally
You can play against "Hordes" Players
Newer, less armies, the game has seen some growing pains over the last couple of years, with the rule book rewrite

In the end it's hard to say, they both are good it's kind of like comparing the NFL with all its glory and tons of fans with familiar rules and Arena Football with its fast pace game play tweaked rules and niche fan base, in the end they are both foot ball you just have to find out for yourself which you like better

If you can GW I know will demo a game for you, see if your local hobby shop will do the same thing with Warmachine, that might help you.

Welcome to dakka dakka

Id throw my lot in with Warhammer 40,000 just because from what you said sounds like from what you said most of your friends play 40k just be eaiser to get into and besides later on you can always get a buddie or 2 into trying out WM/H for change of pace .
