In the new Dark Eldar Codex, the only units which can use Shuriken Pistols are the Harlequins. However, GW, in their infinite wisdom, has, instead of providing the Shuriken Pistol's profile in the armoury section, put the following:

"Shuriken Pistol: See the Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook"

My question is, was there really any point, at all to do this? Why couldn't GW just put the profile of the weapon, instead of a reference to another book?

Now that's just slowed. USR, I can understand. But seriously, a ShuriPistol?

Actually, I like this and hope more codexes follow this example. That way, when a new edition comes out, the update to the BGB will automatically update all the out-of-date codexes.

Perhaps this is an indication that Shuriken weapons are going to be changing with the next release?

It'd be better if they just told the Dark Eldar to check the Eldar codex for Harlequin Rules.

Probably work

Yeah, because creating an inter-codex dependence with some surreal concept of 'allies' never came back to bite anyone two editions later.*

* Please see that time that, two editions later, Allies are somehow difficult for people to grasp, and no one can agree on if I can have a LRBT or not.

I think it's an incredibly slick way of handling it. Set the underlying functionality in the BRB, and then as you need it upgraded, you just do it all at once.

Erm....why wouldn't you have your rulebook with you for a game?

Slightly confused as to the problem here.

No they remain in the same FOC slot as with the Eldar Codex, nothing about them Changed with the Dark Eldar.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Awww, I kinda thought it would be cool- wait a minute, why are harlequins with Eldar AND Dark Eldar? Isn't that like a chaos raptor in a space marine..oh.

It's all good. When Eldar gets a new codex, 6th edtion comes out. New Shuriken Pistols rules apply to DE.

Set up for future update. All good

This. No more stupid 3+ vs 4+ storm shields, common weapons should be updated together.

I chastise you for your lack of knowledge about the background.

Having Harlequins in a Dark Eldar army is like having Noise Marines in a Chaos Daemon army.

I completely agree with you here. The space and/or ink used would be negligible for the listing of a single weapon - they reprinted the entire Harlequin entry after all.

That being said, shuriken pistols stats should be listed in the BRB; my Black Reach mini book has it. Of course, when 6th edition rolls around and the weapon charts for individual armies aren't included, DE harlies will get the shaft...

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

What do you mean "raptors in a space marine army"? No such thing.

That's nothing! The Eldar codex Witchblades entry (for Warlocks) says see the rulebook. Then in the entry JUST below under Singing Spears it tells you they have the same abilities as Witchblades, and then proceeds to give you those rules.

Harlequins aren't tied to anyone in particular. They live in the webway, and tell stories which often involve heightened emotional senses, so they fit right in with Dark Eldar hedonism. It'd be like the same band playing at the Superbowl and at a Seniors Centre. Different styles of storytelling. One involves yelling and uncovered breasts, the other involves telling stories of the 'good old days' in library voices.

Harlequins live outside the normal Eldar Path. They travel the galaxy putting on their 'show' to commemorate the fall, and travel freely amongst all the different Eldar offshoots. They even (at least according to older fluff, I haven't checked if they still mention it) travel through parts of the Imperium... and once upon a time, that was reflected by being able to take Harlequins in Imperial armies as well...
