In the Imperial Guard Codex under the Storm Trooper wargear it states that each trooper has a close combat weapon AND hot shot laspistol. This would give a base model 2 attacks. But the stats show only one attack. I am assuming the extra attack is not included in the stats. So is it one attack or two?

it is an extra attack from having two cc weapons. This is not to be confused with an added attack due to profile or wargear.

see page 37 of the rule book

For all units(in any army) you determine the number of attacks on a model by model Basis as follows:

take the number of Attacks on their profile(A#)
Add to that any bonuses granted by wargear(2 qualifying CCWS, or Special CCWs/Rules that grant bonus attacks)
Then Add the Assaulting Bonus for any unit assaulting or that has the Counter assault rule and passed it's Ld check(some special rules may modify this)
then subtract the Assaulting bonus attacks if the unit you are assaulting has defensive grenades.

For Storm Troopers this is straight forward: 1 base attack, +1 for 2 CCWS, +1 for Assaulting(can be negated by defensive grenades, although those are fairly rare) so generally 3 attacks on the Charge(4 for the Sgt, who has 2 base)

P.S. welcome to dakka; and head over to the Tactics forum to see why Storm troopers aren't used anyways

Aye, if the extra attack is included in the profile the unit entry will say so.

This situation is usually involved with Special Characters that have Wargear items that Provide a Permanent bonus attack, such as if they were to make an Ork Special character that came with an Attack Squig; or the Furioso/Death Company Dreadnaught(Which includes the 2 Weapon Bonus in parentheticals, because the Furioso can exchange 1 fist for a gun) or khorne Berzerkers

So this means that for example a regular guardsman sergeant would have three attacks and four on the charge correct? A regular guardsman has one attack and two on charge. The close combat weapon under wargear does not count toward the stats right?

Correct. A model fights with the number of attacks on his profile, with any extra attacks from wargear or charging etc being in addition to this unless specifically stated otherwise.
