Under dawn of war rules you can deploy one HQ choice and two troop choices. I thought that when you deployed a unit in its dedicated transport that this only counted as one unit. However some one informed me that the dedicated transport counts as one unit and the squad inside counts as another unit. So you can only deploy one squad inside a dedicated transport.

Is that how it works?

That's right. Transports are units.

It even gives you that as an example in the example of the rule(they use a unit of troops, it's dedicated transport; which they then go on to tell you is the second troops unit, and an HQ).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Now I thought the rules for Dawn of War specifically said that you deploy up to one HQ and two Troop CHOICES, not units. That would imply to me two squads with transports and the HQ with transport, so technically you could have six units on the table but only three choices. Am I off??

It's units.

It does not. Read page 93 again, it is rather straightforward.

It even gives you an example where a dedicated transport and the troops unit takes up both your allowance.

So many people dont read that.

I asked this in another thread but I'll add this question:

Where in the rules does it say that a dedicated transport becomes a "Troop" unit? "Dedicated Transport" is its own section in most, if not all, of the codices where they appear. So, except where the transport is listed under 2 different sections of the unit choices where do they change into the type of unit that selects them? I don't accept that the example listed above addresses this issue. And it has been shown in multiple instances where examples or game play demos have been applying the rules incorrectly.

So I'll ask, where does it say that a "Dedicated Transport" becomes a "Troop" for dawn of war purposes (or any other purpose for that matter)? Since the rules are permissive, it would be my understanding that unless there is a rule that allows you to substitute a dedicated transport for a troop choice it can't be done. And as such you can not, by RAW, start a troop choice in dedicated transport in the dawn of war scenerio.

Page 87, under "Dedicated Transports". They count as a unit from the same slot as their parent unit, without taking up any slots themselves.
