Subject: Which colors for my orks?

So I'm thinking of starting an ork army.
I wanted a nice break from painting blue marines this weekend, so I decided to do some testers on my AOBR boyz.
I already have my own opinion, however I'm curious what other people think. I'm also hesitating on painting them all the same, or alternating between 2 or even all 3 colors.
So what do you guys think? Please don't be shy, comment, don't just vote
Some disclaimers ...
I'm a lot more interested about opinion on the skin than the gear... the lack of color is a conscious decision, because:
1 - The Goffs aren't big on color (White, Black, Brown, some metallic)
2- With over 80 boyz to paint, plus assorted nobz, warbikes, etc... I don't want to be putting 20 colors per model.
So yes, I'm aware the gear could have used more detail and attention... but you can't go crazy with details when you're painting hordes! Heck, my checkers already took me way too long imo, and they're not even all that straight/clean...

I like the outer 2 boyz maybe darken then slightly. The middle boyz is just to darkened out to much.

Alternate skins. Looks great on the table with the different shades. It helps give your army character.

If you're looking for quick then take the one with the least amount of painting. I usually go with Knarloc green and Badab Black wash.

I think the one on the left is the best. And as to the lack of color, I think your boys look better than mine because of it. Although I am going to repaint them sometime...
I might take a page out of your book for the new scheme!

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

I voted for the left most just because i think it will look best on the table the middle one is really my fav but is too dark to be apparent on the table with 1,000 others.

Voted left-most, it has that nice orky hue to it. The middle one is far too dark. The right one also looks fairly good but the left one is the best =) Have you used any wash on it or is it just Goblin Green? I have a good number of boyz to paint myself.

Left is my favorite, followed by right. A bit of variation is nice in a horde, and I think running the range between those two models would serve you well. The Dark Angels green is WAY too dark for my tastes.
I like to darken my nobs a bit, in keeping with the fluff, but I've found introducing a bit of brown into the mix gives a more natural darkened tone than stepping down to the next darker set of greens.

Is it wrong that I feel flattered that people are asking me how I did the skins? I'm usually the guy asking people stuff
I used the same technique for all 3 really, the only difference was the change in colors.
- Paint the skin with Base Color
- Apply Wash, make sure it rests heavily in the recesses.
- Lighten up raised areas and facial features with base color
- Does a quick blending from Base Color to Light Color on raises areas and facial features.
Left Model:
Base : Goblin Green
Wash : Thrakka Green
Light: Scorpion Green
Middle Model:
Base : Dark Angel Green
Wash : Baddad Black
Light: Snot Green
Right Model:
Base : Snot Green
Wash : Thrakka Green
Light: Goblin Green
I'm actually a bit surprised at the response the Dark Angel Green is getting - while he's not winning the poll, a lot of people seem to like him anyway or as a second best... I personally think he's the worse of the 3. My blending job is poorly done on that one and he's way too dark... I had to use Badab Black has a wash because Thraka Green is simply not dark enough. Also, if you compare them to the GW official ork models, their color is much closer to the left/right ones... Space Orks don't really get as dark as the middle one (I think Black Orc in fantasy do tho?).
But I think the image of the 'Black Ork' is something gamers just like? Maybe I should find a way to make a Black Ork that looks better, I just think Dark Angel Green is too dark of a color to start with... does Orkhide Shade still exist has a GW product and how does it compare to Dark Angel Green?

What kind of brown do you use and what kind of green do you start from?

I like the dark look if your going for the feral orks in the jungle who maybe threw on some dirt camo, how ever if your not going for that then i like the one on the right.
