Subject: Counts-As Plague Bearers, Which way should I make them?

So basically I'm building a count-as daemon army that represents a Night Lords warband. So I'm torn on which method I'm going to move forward with on building my plague bearers.
Options 1:
Marines who have lost control and started mutating like crazy. Basically CSM models with lot's of the mutation stuff like heads, arms, and armor from the possessed sprues.
Option 2:
Failed aspirants. A warband has to keep it's numbers up so what about using scout models with mutation bitz to represent those that don't have a strong enough will to resist chaos?
So which option would be better? I'll be buying the models for this army in the next few weeks and want to get it right in one fell swoop
Thanks!

Wait Night Lords as in the CSM legion Night lords that wear power armor?? not to rain on your parade but if you could elaborate on how this army works in Codex: Chaos Daemons
no offense meant here I'm just curious?

No offense taken Physcoamatic I'll explain. Basically I have a more than mild dislike of the daemon line of miniatures. It doesn't suit my painting style one bit and the lack of uniformity drives me crazy. So counts-as is a nice way to get around it. Now it's an army from scratch but basically the only power armored marine models will be the bloodcrushers and possibly plague bearers. Bloodcrushers will be chaos bikers who are growing and melding into a single entity (how much will depend on my green stuff skills). The CSM will be wielding 2-hand power weapons and that actually fits the statline of a BC quite well. The other will possibly be plague bearers and the idea is that while they have power armor it's more that it's become their skin making them tougher not so much armored protection anymore. It's why I'm torn on which one to do. I like the idea of mutated marines but I know the power armor is hard for some people to look past so failed aspirants may work better. As for the rest of the list my heralds of slaanesh will be "outrider" patrols of non-failed aspirants (2 scout bikers on a 60mm stand properly chaosified). My DP's will be DP's, my flesh hounds will be chaos warhounds, and my fiends will be slaanesh mutated termies where the torso is a terminator top w/lightning claws but the legs are the lower part of a ravener which is where their speed comes from. Since the majority of the model will then not be armored the 5++ daemonic save only makes sense. It's kinda a throw back in a way to the LatD army list that used to be available where a couple of marines led their followers. In this case it's more of a small band of Nightlords and their immediate retainers going to war. And Night Lords are renown for their terror strikes that come from no where which I think the deepstriking rule conveys well. Since it represents them basically just appearing out of nowhere suddenly and rampaging thru the enemy.

Ah.
I go with option 1, but use some green stuff, not just possessed bitz or they will look like possessed.

Do you realize fluffwise the Nightlords seldom use demons? They and Alpha Legion are the most "tactical" CSM forces. It's your army to paint as you wish of course, there are bound to be exceptions to the rule but your theme may really work better for Wordbearers

I realize they seldom use daemons. I'm actually only using at most DP's which would be one or two guys who fell. The "flesh hounds" are just specially trained warbeasts, not daemons. The Crushers are Chosen Biker Marines (stats start to line up right if you think of them this way). The only "daemonic" thing is the mutated termies.
I'm slightly hamstrung as it's for a TT at Adepticon and we're going with a nightlords theme where I think Alpha Legion/Word Bearers would have worked better but it'll still work I think. I just hate standard daemon models. Don't enjoy the chaos codex from a standard Night Lords perspective and traitor guard aren't something I'm into

It might be better if you go with Alpha Legion fluff-wise, as you can replace the troop choice Daemons with converted Cultists. Flagellants are perfect to fit them except Daemonettes. Bloodletters can have huge great weapons, Plaguebearers can have green skin and pus, and Horrors can be mutants. That or Word bearers, who actually use Daemons and you can just use a bunch of count-as random creatures as the Daemons.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Musta missed that line about being hamstrung by theme Mecha. They have to be Nightlords to match the rest of the team. It's cool though. I'm considering traitor guard instead but time will tell.

Option 1 with a tad of GS is a wonderful option. A CSM Posessed and CSM basic set would make for really fun kitbashing.
